Turmeric, or variously spelt tumeric, is Curcuma domestica Val.

An even better relative for liver problems is Curcuma xanthorrhiza

Roxb. but whether this is exported from here in Indonesia or

Malaysia, where it grows natively, I do not know. The rhizome grows

to be *much* larger than turmeric. In the local herbal literature it

is always mentioned for liver troubles rather than turmeric. Locally

it is known as " temu lawak " . I am going to look into the product line

of some of the traditional " jamu " (herbal remedy) firms to see if

they have it in powdered form. I can buy it in the wet markets for

mere pennies per kilogram.
