Guest guest
I have an appointment with my mother-in-law, who has stage IV appendix cancer, at a holistic center this afternoon. Can anyone give me any tips on what important questions to ask them as we're pretty new to the holistic approach? Thanks in advance!
Guest guest
I think you need to know several things. 1) Is this doctor an MD who practices holistic medicine -- they are rare. 2) Is the doctor a naturopath? a Chiropractor? an Osteopath? What are his educational credentials? 3) Does he/she treat cancer only or many other illnesses and maladies? 4) What is his/her experience with cancer and what is his/her track record with cancer patients? 5) Will he/she treat only the cancer or will he treat the entire person. For example if he is treating the patient for cancer and the patient has gastrointestinal issues or a cold, or some other malady not related to the cancer, will this doctor take care of that problem as well. From personal experience, I can tell you that it is very hard to go to a holistic cancer specialist and go to a traditional doctor for other things. Also, just as you would get a second opinion from a traditional doctor, you might want to meet with more than one alternative/holistic doctor.
