Guest guest
Ray I think almost any exercise is beneficial. Some more than others. I teach Kundalini Yoga and there is a big difference on what people get out of each Kriya or set of exercises. I see people put in different amounts of effort concerning both the flexibility and aerobic effort. Some people breath very shallow and some take deep diaphramic breaths. I did see one study a few months ago saying that people who did sports like soccer and basketball had more benefits than just running or jogging. I would presume this is because they used a wider range of muscles, did not get bored as easily and ran at different rates, sometimes at almost full speed and other times at walking pace. When exercising, it can benefit these areas: strength, flexibility, quickness, speed, endurance, aerobic capacity and others GB > > Hi you probably wondering why I ask this quesion it be cause Im fighting cancer and my doctor has told me I need to get more exersise, yet I walk every day I just feel right now that Aerobic exercise 'a waste of time' and I fell just walking is better for you, Manny years ago a lot of the people I knew, trained in the army. Guest guest
Thank you for the reply GB, I have been talking to a few people about exercises. at the age of 57, I feel my self and the few friends I have left, have wore our self out, and now my doctor telling me I should do weight lifting, but with all the post I have been getting I think I'm coming around to his way of thinking, use it or lose it, I get the idea now, when you say " When exercising, it can benefit these areas: strength, flexibility, quickness, speed, endurance, aerobic capacity and others " so a few of us will be heading down to the Jim cheers Ray From: greatyoga Sent: Friday, February 05, 2010 9:43 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Is Aerobic exercise 'a waste of time' Ray I think almost any exercise is beneficial. Guest guest
Ray Weight lifting is great but consider that it mostly works on strength. There are also beneficial effects for bone density and some heart/aerobic capacity but little in the way of dealing with flexibility, endurance, speed, etc. As I said, I teach yoga and am biased toward yoga. Personally, I like exercises that work on the core. The core is your center where most of the internal organs are located. Exercises like crunches, situps, etc. directly stimulate those internal organs. Running and soccer are also great for working off calories and getting the lungs and heart pumping. Guest guest
For the cancer patient exercise is important because it helps to keep elimination route open: sweating, breathing, defecation and urination. Rebounding is one of the most effective things one can do and it helps to pump the lymphatic system thus aiding in the moving of toxins out of the body. Walking (outside is preferable) is also recommended and is one of the best ways to alleviate depression. I would also recommend Yoga and Pilates as well as some weight training if one can handle it. I also recommend using an inversion table and chiropratic religiously as these will address the spine. Many do not recognize the importance of keep the spine aligned. I am a firm believer in exercise, but I do not believe that it has to be extreme. A long time ago I heard some very good advice -- whatever you do in order to keep your body well and fit (including exercise, diet, supplements, etc.) should be at a level in which you can perform it at any age/season of your life. I agree! Guest guest
I've read that exercise increases free radical production and that those that exercise a lot should increase antioxidants even more. Tim
