Saj,

You need more information:

--You need to know exactly what is on the pathology report

-- As you said she had a PET scan, you need to know the SUV

-- Is the lesion encapsulated? That is, does it have clearly defined and

regular borders?

-- It would be useful to know her basal body temperature

-- If accessible, an ultrasound elastogram

-- A thermogram might be useful

The blood work is quite normal but for lower vitamin D (Parvin and half the

planet) and slightly low ferritin which could be pre-anemic or could simply

be contraceptives, vitamin C, or even anti-thyroid meds (soy?)

You have reported nothing alarming that would justify racing to a surgeon.

I would avoid most conventional meds and supplements until you sort out

exactly what is going on and how you are going to assess progress. It does

not make sense to take a hodge-podge of pro-oxidants and anti-oxidants.

Once you know the true nature of the problem and how you are going to

monitor progress you can confidently select your tools.

Tell the next medical consultant that you have no money and see how fast

they back away from a surgical recommendation.

Kudos to your wife for taking charge.

Hello Caring Folks...Have reached out before, but cc'ing my wife for 1st

time..Have also sent to iodine group as well...

We have visited about 3 different docs (for wife) and all want to do a TT

(total

thyroidectomy) due to thyroid cancer (confirmed via biopsy)..

However, no TT yet...I guess that's a great thing after reading all the

posts...She wants to wait at least 6 months to try other paths.

Sonogram (12/18/2010) shows a solid vascular nodule in the left side of

thyroid

that measures 1.3 x 1.9 cm

PET Scan (01/06/2011) shows 2.2 x 1.4 cm

....

She will be starting homeopathic meds from next week.

She will also start on Nutrilite's DoubleX multivitamins, Antioxidants,

Vitamin

C Plus, Probiotics, Carlson's Fish Oil, and Hagiwara's Green Magma.

She's also a hardcore exercise woman...1/2 marathon, weights, etc.

She also has no symptoms other than kids stress :-)

Does she also need to take iodine (Lugols or Iodoral) orally and/or painting

the thyroid area ?

By the way, does anyone know about Dr. Tim O' Shea out of San , CA and

The vitamin D3 is low and this needs to be addressed. Get the vitamin D level up

to near 100 using vitamin D3 and use the method for testing Lab Corp uses. The

area can be painted with iodine and then going into a infrared sauna will make

the iodine more effective. In other words paint the area with iodine then go

into a infrared sauna for 30 to 45 minutes depending on the power of the

heaters, but long enough to induce a good sweat. Almost every person that has

cancer and has had the vitamin D level tested, it is very low. The vitamin D

level is critical for fighting and preventing cancer.

The other supps seem to be ok.

I would add a detox of both spirulina and chlorella.

Any thing below 30 and the vitamin D level is in the danger zone. For People

with cancer the level needs to be much higher.  Many folks will need to take

10,000 to 20,000 units per day to get to that level near 100. accurate testing

using the Lab Corp method is the only way to know for sure.

Thanks ...

Would you like for me to jot down the pathology report as well as the PET scan

report..

Also for basal body temp, I will have her get 2-3 days of temp as soon as she

wakes up.

There was a lot of tests run, so I will have to see if ultrasound elastogram was

in there or not..However, no thermogram.

For the vit D and low ferritin (likely anemic), however no contraceptives, no

soy or anti-thyroid med that i know of...

However not sure what all contraceptive and anti-thyroid entails. No vit C

supplements either..

Please let me know next steps...Thanks

Parvin and Saj, Sorry about the diagnosis. I do know something about thyroid

disease because it's common in elderly cats. I'm NOT comparing humans to pets,

so don't misunderstand that. But in my experience with animals, Western

medicine does a better job than does an all-holistic approach when it comes to

thyroid disease.

Holistic measures are great for supporting overall health during conventional

medical treatment, however, if you choose your holistic measures carefully so as

not to conflict with conventional treatment.

If I had thyroid cancer, I'd probably choose to have it treated with radioactive

iodine, rather than surgery, because with surgery, it's possible for the problem

to recur, also possible the surgery won't remove all the abnormal tissue, (as

it's possible for tiny bits of thyroid tissue to grow elsewhere in the neck or

chest cavity, not just in the thyroid glands themselves). With surgery there's

also a certain amount of risk of damage to the parathyroids. So that's my

reasoning as to the treatment I'd want if it were me. Dr. can discuss these

things with you and supply all pertinent statistics. God bless.

I know he used to recommend iodine first for thyroid issues instead of directly

going on thyroid meds, I'm assuming he still has that view. I've used a lot of

the supplements he recommends and found them to be high quality. I've talked to

him by phone, I'm out of state and found him very helpful. I always recommend

his website to folks, he has a wealth of excellent information, particularly on

nutrition. I spend a lot on supplements, and I've become much healthier in the

process, so it 's been worth it for me. I figure I'm either going to pay

financially or with mr health.

Hi 'et all

I was out due to work and thus reason for delay in getting back to you...I am

pasting here exactly what's in the pathology and PET scan report. Hope this is

helpful in your expert diagnosis.

THYROID SONOGRAM: 12/18/2010

FINDINGS: The right and left thyroid lobes are normal in size, shape and

appearance with homogenous echotexture.

Right thyroid lobe measures 3.2cm longitudinally and 1.1 x 1.4 cm in cross

section.

Left thyroid lobe measures 3.3cm longitudinally and 1.1 x 1.2 cm in cross

section.

There is a 1.3 x 1.9 cm solid, vascular nodule in the left aspect of the thyroid

isthmus. Followup nuclear medicine thyroid scan would be helpful to evaluate for

hot or cold nodule.

SURGICAL PATHOLOGY REPORT: 12/22/2010

DIAGNOSIS

A. Left thyroid, fine needle aspiration (cytospins and cell block)

-- Papillary thyroid carcinoma

-- Paucicellular specimen consisting of proteinaceous debris and blood.

B. Left thyroid, fine needle aspiration (smears)

-- Papillary thyroid carcinoma

COMMENTS

Cytospins (speciment A) and smears are hemorrhagic but include multiple

three-dimensional, branching papillary structure. While most of the cellular

areas are quite thick, the cells have rounded to oval nuclei with fine chromatin

and frequent nuclear grooves. The cell block (specimen A) also shows papillary

structures with fibrovascular cores, which are lined by cells that include

intranuclear inclusions.

PET SCAN REPORT: 01/06/2011

HEAD AND NECK

Evaluation of the soft tissues of the head and neck shows physiological uptake

in paired glandular and muscular tissues. Specific attention to the thyroid

shows a low-density lesion in the left lobe that is midly avid for FDG with SUVs

peaking at 3.5. It measures 2.2 x 1.4 cm and is consistent with the history of

thyroid cancer. Mild brown fat uptake is incidentally noted in the

supraclavicular fat but there is no abrnomal nodal uptake visible above the

clavicles.

IMPRESSION

Hypermetabolic thyroid nodule is consistent with the history of thyroid cancer.

Thanks for all the help and may God bless you ....

Not sure if any other particular tests need to be done...Need guidance here

Tim O' Shea out of San , CA and

his

website:

This is a type of thyroid cancer that can be treated with surgery and

radioactive iodine ablation. This would almost certainly cure her, but at

the same time it can increase the chances that she can get other types of

cancer. The PET-SUV is low which means that this is probably slower

growing. I would respect her inclination to try natural methods first. It

is most definitely what I personally would do. I would also recommend that

you join some of the thyroid lists. Many of them have very high quality

information on natural treatments.

Hi 'et all

I was out due to work and thus reason for delay in getting back to you...I

am

pasting here exactly what's in the pathology and PET scan report. Hope this

is

helpful in your expert diagnosis.

THYROID SONOGRAM: 12/18/2010

FINDINGS: The right and left thyroid lobes are normal in size, shape and

appearance with homogenous echotexture.

Right thyroid lobe measures 3.2cm longitudinally and 1.1 x 1.4 cm in cross

section.

Left thyroid lobe measures 3.3cm longitudinally and 1.1 x 1.2 cm in cross

section.

There is a 1.3 x 1.9 cm solid, vascular nodule in the left aspect of the

thyroid

isthmus. Followup nuclear medicine thyroid scan would be helpful to evaluate

for

hot or cold nodule.

SURGICAL PATHOLOGY REPORT: 12/22/2010

DIAGNOSIS

A. Left thyroid, fine needle aspiration (cytospins and cell block)

-- Papillary thyroid carcinoma

-- Paucicellular specimen consisting of proteinaceous debris and blood.

B. Left thyroid, fine needle aspiration (smears)

-- Papillary thyroid carcinoma
