Guest guest
I always ran to the hospital until I got the prednisone. but all they did in the hospital was set him in a bath for hours until the temp went down enough to take home. So if your little one likes baths just get in one and play. That mite help. Unless you think it mite be something else like an ear infection or uti then you may need a DR. S help. if you really believe its then all you can rely on is your gut because there isn't really anything else they can do for it just the prednisone to help get some of the inflammation down. Good luck IM sorry you have a long night ahead of you. Get rest while the little one does. ************************************** See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Guest guest
When our daughter's fever was hitting 105 every day for 6 days and after she had had a few days of antibiotics that's when we felt like enough was enough a nd went to the hospital. It just got to a point where we didn't feel right trying to handle it on our own anymore. We also do not have a confirmed diagnosis of , but I'm guessing that even for those of you with a definite diagnosis you can't always tell if the fever is caused by something else. Most of our daughter's fevers have similar cycles and we start to see the lower temps by the 4th day. When we didn't (with a fever this summer that last for 10 days), that's when I felt like I wanted some experts to be watching her and to rule out other viruses, etc. Certainly in the hospital your child will have to undergo tests and that's the downside. Good luck and I hope your child's fever goes away soon. -Leigh
Guest guest
I used to wait until my daughter's fever got to 102 before I begun medicating her with Tylenol or Motrin. Sometimes waiting until her temperature got this high would make it harder to bring the fever down and often I had to rotate her medecine around. For example, if she had Motrin and the fever did not go down, I would give her a dose of tylenol within 30 minutes to an hour. By not being aggressive with the medecine my daughter's fever would spike to over 106. Eventually, through trial and error, we realized that if we medicated her as soon as she started to climb say 100.5, and kept medicating her every four - six hours with tylenol and motrin, her fevers were much more controllable and we could keep them at no more than 103. I will be honest it is alot of medication! and we read the labels and follow dosages religiously. But when my girl is sick she is medicated 24/7 for 4 days straight. I cannot deal with the huge spikes and running to the emergency room. In fact, at night we set the alarm clock to wake us up in time to give her the next dose. We have a tonsellectony scheduled for later this month and truly hope that this fever and drug nightmare will be over soon. Best of luck, keep us posted. -Adry
Guest guest
Did you ever find out what your daughter's 10 day fever was all about? Was is low grade or very high? Did you go to the hospital? -Adry
Guest guest
Hey Karin, The fever doesnt usually drop on its own until the end of the cycle. Until then we have found that motrin was by far the best suppressant. My daughter would respond within 30 minutes and the fever would essentially go away for up to 4-8 hrs. However it would return but it helped us manage the cycle. She was like a new little girl when the motrin took affect you would almost think there was nothing wrong at all she was running, playing, and eating. We could always tell when the motrin was wearing off because those thing would start to decrease. Since my daughters IDS doctor classified her as having we have given her predisone at the onset of her fevers and withing a couple hours she has broken her fever and will go thru the cycle fever free. We do not give it to her continously its one tablet at the onset. We were very resistant to steriods but after battling this for quite awhile now just to have something that provides relief for her is welcome. Good luck Troy Ralston
Guest guest
Hi Karin Re your tonsillectomy question: I have read statistics where kids with no throat involvement during episodes react just as well as ones with throat involvement. Emma doesn't get a sore throat with her episodes and we are going to have her tonsils out early next year. With regards to managing the fevers... in the first 6 months we ended up in the emergency room almost every time. This was before the diagnosis and we had no idea what was wrong with her. We're now more comfortable dealing with the fevers at home. We use paracetamol and anti-inflammatory (Neurofen or Voltaren) suppositories. The medication can take up to an hour to take effect so we're often up during the night playing with Emma until her fever goes down below 39.5 degrees and we're happy to put her back to bed on her own. After so many fevers with never a seizure we've been told it is very unlikely we;ll ever get a seizure. And now that we're more 'used to it' we don't freak out with we see a 40 or even 41 degree fever. We just medicate and put her in a tepid bath to cool down. We also use prednisone which has shortened the episodes dramatically. Usually we wait for the fever to spike a few times and for the doctor to rule out other reasons for the fever. Last time we gave prednisone straight away and although it brought the fever down, it kept coming back for another 24 hours. I think we gave it too early! I've read about other parents on this board who have had similar experiences when giving prednisone too early on in the episode. Good luck! Guest guest
I don't believe it is ever too late. Too late for what? You can always try. I would load up on fruits and vegetables and juice, juice, juice. They are full of anti oxidants. There are many supplements on the market with anti cancer properties. There are diet protocols, mineral supplements and many many more things. You have to give more information if you want more precise answers. By the way, I don't believe that prayer alone will do anything. God helps those who help themselves. Guest guest
have you looked into the Budwig Protocol? Google Budwig Protocol or Budwig Diet or Johanna Budwig. There are a lot of people who swear by it. As for diet: Absolutely no sugar except natural fruits. No preservatives, no processed foods, no enriched white flour. Only whole wheat or other whole grain flour. No animal products of any kind including milk and eggs. Vitamin D in high doses. Green Tea extract in capsules. Mushroom Extract in capsules. Google Cellect and call to speak with Fred Eichhorn the formulator of Cellect. He does not charge for phone consultations. Discuss your situation with him and see what he has to say. There are many people who have cured their cancer with Cellect. He can supply you with names and phone numbers so you can speak to them directly. Continue to do more research and I am sure you will continue to come up with new things. There is a ton of information out there. Guest guest
It will take more than " one " thing. 1) You don't believe them and refuse to " hear " their words....that is unless they are GOD!! Separate yourself from anyone who speaks negativity to your ears. Find practitioners that are willing to be part of your WELLNESS team. 2) Research, Research, Research. Find a protocol that you BELIEVE will work for your situation. Be willing to " step out of the box. " The Johanna Budwig Protocol is a good place to begin: FlaxSeedOil2/ Research Oleander, Aloe Vera, Laetrile, MMS2 http://jimhumble.biz/biz-mms2intro-eng.htm Understand there are absolutely no magic bullets - it takes getting the body terrain inhospitable to disease which means a protocol that deals with the entire body - mind - spirit. 3) Read The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton 4) Realize that your past lifestyle has not been condusive to wellness which means there must be a COMPLETE CHANGE. 5) Find a KNOWLEDGEABLE alternative medicine practitioner that can guide you and help you to get well. However, understand that getting well is YOUR responsibility. 6) Diet is foundational and it is something we can all change. Begin there. Cleansing is also very necessary - research liver/gallbladder/colon/parasite/heavy metal/emotional/environmental cleansing. 7) Remember that what works for one may not work for another. We are NOT cookie-cutters. On the other hand, what has worked for one MAY certainly work for another. I am a stage 3 colon cancer survivor - diagnosed in 2000. Although no one verbally said it was too late there were a lot of people that stood around with their arms folded waiting for everything that I was doing to fail. Their actions spoke much louder than their words. I surrounded myself with just a few close friends/relatives -- my husband and my alternative medicine doctor were my coaches. I wish I could say that my " belief " was always strong; however, there were times when my coaches had to step up to the plate and kick my emotional backside toward wellness. Natural medicine is not a game and it is not as convenient as going for a chemo IV every week, month, etc. and then living your life as you please. It is WORK and it takes DISCIPLINE and the DESIRE to get well. Emotions play a tremendous part in the healing process. Begin dealing with these by using EFT and/or finding someone who you trust to talk to about past hurts, wrongs, anger, etc. All cancer patients have emotional issues and the ones who deal with them effectively usually see the best results. And again, distance yourself from those who think they " know better. " No one leaves this planet one second before GOD determines. Telling a patient that it is " too late " is nothing short of emotional rape. I don't care if this is what they have been taught to say or not -- it's common sense to know that conventional medicine practitioners are not GOD. However, do remember that really what they are telling you is that what they have to offer will not work -- there are lots of things that they don't know about or refuse to accept that actually can work. It just means that it is time for you to move forward on your healing path. While their words may seemingly dispel hope; actually they may be a blessing in disguise. Hang in there and refuse to allow anyone to determine your future. I will not wish you luck because luck has nothing to do with it! It's time to take charge and take control in every area of your life. However, I will wish you MUCH SUCCESS! " In finding solutions to challenges don't be afraid to 'step out of the box.' Your willingness to do so may mean the difference between life and death. I have found that most things are not 'as they seem'. Educate yourself thoroughly and meet each challenge with the determination that there is always a solution and that the solution may not be what is 'normally accepted'. The road less traveled may have the most answers.
