Guest guest
Yes, mainstream's new " wonder life-extender " for glioblastoma is.... " altered " diphtheria toxin! Glioblastoma - Treatment for Brain Tumor Clinical Trial Brings Hope for Brain Tumor Patients Westchester Medical Center is one of only about two dozen hospitals across the country participating in a clinical trial of a new malignant brain tumor treatment. The trial has the potential to bring new hope to those patients suffering from a type of brain cancer called a glioblastoma - an extremely difficult tumor to treat, with poor survival rates. In the trial, doctors at Westchester Medical Center deliver an experimental medication made with diphtheria toxin through a catheter. The drug, called TransMID, is an altered form of the diphtheria toxin and is delivered over a 4-5 day time period. The lengthy delivery method is to ensure that the brain is not overwhelmed with excess fluid. In earlier clinical trials of TransMID, 35 percent of patients had their tumors reduced by 50 percent or more and experienced an increase in life expectancy. The current trial includes more than 100 patients and is expected to run through 2006. For more information, please call (914) 493 - 2068, or visit our Clinical Trials and Research area.
