Robyn,

I looked into this some time ago and, coincidentally, was talking about

it with someone just this morning. You probably visited their website

and have read the material there.

They are combining laser with, essentially, a stain that is picked up by

tumor cells. I'm guessing that the stain is some form of iodine. The

stained cells heat up faster than unstained cells and are killed via

heat when they absorb the laser energy. This is a variation on a

theme. There are a number of therapies that use some type of

photosensitization combined with light frequencies. In the past

has mentioned aminolevulinic acid combined with light energy as a

therapy for superficial cancers.

This looks promising for unmetastasized skin cancers (for which there

are already many effective therapies) and for some superficial breast

cancers. I would not consider it a cure, but more of a debulking/immune

sensitizing therapy. Most of the breast cancers that it can reach can

be removed via surgery. With surgery you are able to look for clean

margins. With the laser you could never know whether you killed every

cell present in a tumor mass.

I think this therapy has its place, but I don't consider it a cancer cure.

I advise against L.I.E.S.H., that is, Lase Med. Their staff is

secretive, furtive, paranoid, uninformed, and full of hyperbole. I

have known three women who did the treatment. Immediately after the

therapy the women were all excited and very protective of the woman

who does the treatments. Apparently she makes a good impression with

her exaggerated claims and her stories of how the government was

trying to steal her methods. Within weeks each woman sank like a

bullet to hell. The first woman, Theresa from Florida, had

metastatic breast cancer and the woman promised her a cure. After a

long on-line discussion with their very hostile marketing people I

strongly argued against this therapy. Theresa went anyway and soon

died. This was quite a disappointment as she was young, smart,

upbeat and I thought she had a good chance.

I have to concur with 's comments on this kind of treatment because I

knew the person involved and as it progressed, it became a horror. Much

suffering and then the end.
