Here's to all of our children hoping 2002 will bring them some pain relief and head them to more normal lives!!

Happy New Year to all and thanks to all for your help and support. 2001 started out bad and is ending pretty good and I hope it continues into 2002.

I'm glad you're in my dash---

I read of a man who stood to speak

At the funeral of a friend

He referred to the dates on her tombstone

From the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth

And spoke the following date with tears,

But he said what mattered most of all

Was the dash between those years. (1934-1998)

For that dash represents all the time

That she spent alive on earth...

And now only those who loved her

Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;

The cars...the house...the cash,

What matters is how we live and love

And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...

Are there things you'd like to change?

For you never know how much time is left,

That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough

To consider what's true and real,

And always try to understand

The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,

And show appreciation more

And love the people in our lives

Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,

And more often wear a smile..

Remembering that this special dash

Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read

With your life's actions to rehash...

Would you be proud of the things they say

About how you spent your dash?

If you have received this, it means that you are truly

special to the one that sent this to you.

Send this on to the ones you care about...

Dear Mic,

I understand the being nervous. I am in my ninth week of treatment and I have to say that everything is beginning to level out just like they said it would after a couple of months. I have medications in the house for most every side effect and I find that I am not using them nearly as much. I had almost no nausea this week. I agree with everyone who said to get on an anti-depressant before you start (they take several weeks to become effective). For me, the depression was the worst side effect because I felt so powerless. In addition, I keep something to help me sleep, a very mild dose of valium (2 mg) for anxiety, some darvoset for the shot headache, and a few antinausua medications depending on the severity (I have an irrational fear of nausea - always have, even as a baby).

So, hang in there if you can and keep your eye on the prize. For me it was also an emotional lift to get below my 40th shot remaining. It just felt good to be in the 30's. One thing my doctor said to me that really helped is "You are not sick. These are side effects from potent medications. They will go away."

Good luck!

Titch!

Your pictures are great! What a beautiful couple! How did your husband come by the name "2C"? And, I can't get over how much you are a blend of both your mother and father.

Beautiful photography.

My very best to both of you. May you have a happy, healthy, loving, wealthy life!

Titch,

Well a very Happy New Year to you (and yours!). Ummm, I admit I feel

like a bit of a dolt....did I miss the announcement of this impending

event....why I completely am embarrasseed if I did ....

I am sure I was wrapped up in the usual preparations for all the

festivities at this time of year ...sorry to be late to congratulate!

You make a spectacular bride and I admire your choice in color for the

dress..it suits your coloring beautifully. Your pictures will be a

wonderful memory for many years to come!

I am sorry you are ill now...hopefully those antibiotics will kick in

and give you a lift before New Years. I hope your back stays out of

the way for awhile and you get to just enjoy your newlywed bliss!

Very best wishes to you both, Cam

Dear Titch,

What beautiful photo's! You and your groom look so happy! I admire your choice in color, and style, my wedding photos are so generic, would have loved to go more bold. I hope you'll be on the mend soon, not fair to be sick during all of this. I send you many happy wishes for your new life together!

Thought I'd drop you all a line to say happy new year, and hope that it is a good one for all of us. I'm not making the best start on it mind you, as I currently have an evil chest infection and have literally not been so ill for years, but at least I now have antibiotics so should start picking up quite rapidly.

It's been great to read how good Kam's recovery is (despite the setback), and the idea of Spinal Bling has had 2c and I roaring with laughter :o) If nothing else, if we can all face the new year with such humour, it has to be a good one no matter what life throws at us!

On a different subject, here's some wedding photos on the one well day we had between 2c being ill until the wedding day and myself being increasingly ill since:

It was only briefly mentioned - it's weird, we were going to do it last year, but had such an absolutely awful year that we just couldn't face it and put it all back another year (we still wanted to have it on longest night). It seemed kind of unreal - after all, we've been together ten and a half years, it's a daft thing to go making such a fuss about after all this time, although of course we're glad we did! Still, it sort of meant that outside those who were invited, we really didn't make much mention of it this time before the whole event, so quite a few people have been taken by surprise by it. I suppose we almost felt we'd jinx it somehow.

2c comes from his initials, being Cottell. As my surname is Chester, I get to keep my initials even if I change my name :o) Colour wise - when I went shopping for the material, I was really looking for blue, or perhaps even the right shade of red, then I was introduced to this fantastic silver-grey silk velvet and that was it! I'm glad it came off ok as I made the whole of my outfit including the corset underneath it, and made 2c's jacket, shirt and waistcoat. Also on colour, would you believe I am actually blonde?? :o)

The reason for the tiger is we encouraged people to dress up in whatever they wanted, and so his dad and stepmum decided to come as his favourite cartoon - Calvin and Hobbes :o) The poor registrar had real difficulty keeping a straight face when faced with such a bunch of lunatics! Still and all, it was a fun night and I think everyone enjoyed it :o)

Oh, my goodness, Titch! What a marvelously medieval couple! Did he leave his sword and scabbard in the carriage?!

How lovely to see what you look like after all these years, and how radiant (not to mention straight and tall!) you look!

Thanks so much for sharing your pics, and may you have many years of happiness together.

--Titch,

I loved the wedding photos....kind of nice to see something else on

the board other than a bunch of spines!! Only kidding guys, I love

your spine pictures!! If you could only how many times I have

studied your spines...loooking at every detail and counting all the

pieces of bling!!!

Oh now for the preop update....oh my goodnes...I was sooo grouchy at

the end I thought my sisters were going to leave me there and go

home without me..I got to the NEBH at 8:00 and left slightly after

4:00, I even bumped into Priscilla in the lobby and she

said " ,you are still here? " It just was a very long, long day

ending with a blood donation at the blood band. Cam, you were

correct the spine class was well worth the time, I would recommend

it to Vonnie and Sharon. They also provide you with a nice lunch

etc. I got to ask many questions..like how will I get my daily

newspaper ???, The NY POST....only kidding...THey told me they do

deliver a paper to you everyday if you would like.

Basically it was nursing looking you over, social worker, asking

about your home care when you leave, ansthesia(spelling), that was

very important to me..I wanted to know I would be sedated before I

get into the operating room, I don't want to see any of that..I was

assured I would be. I did not meet with PT due to time constraints

with a CAT scan and new xrays....

GOod news is I got 3 units of blood banked, one from me and one from

each of my sisters. They also informed me that I can donate blood

every seven days until my surgery from Philadelphia..I was not aware

of that..SO I can bank one more unit from home to be sent up here to

MASS> I will try my best to do that...

I also met with a person in Rand;s office to fill out papers for

a " study " that they are doing, it was optional, I did it becasue if

I can in any way help future folks with any info they can get from

me , that is all good stuff in my world!!

I also joked with Priscilla about the web and how we talk about

Rand..she laughed... SHe said, " you really can't be in better

hands " , I said, " so I have heard on the web!! "

All in all it was a productive day but I was in so much pain from

sitting, walking, and hanging around I just wanted a bed and a nap!!

Next big day is coming soon!! Friday the 13th..that is my first

stage!! I hope it is a lucky day for me!!!!

HOpe you all don't find this too boring but it helped me to recap in

my mind what I had just done..whew....., PA

Many thanks for your tremendous efforts in promoting coconut oil. I

know that I have learned a tremendous amount from this group, (and

not only about coconut oil).

Please keep up your fantastic work in educating those who are lucky

I really should have given you all of 's message.

==========

Hey everyone,

I promised I would introduce us but we have really not been able to

come up

for air.Desire' seemed better for a few days and now is vomiting

again. We're

getting her med levels checked But I had a question for you guys. Let

me tell

you a little bit about Desire' first, though.

Desire' is 13 (14 next month!) and has Rett Syndrome. Rett is a

neurological

disorder that affects mostly females because it is carried on the X

Chromosome.

Girls with Rett develop normally for the fist 6-18 months of their

lives and

then start to regress and lose skills. They typically have

stereotypical hand

movements (clapping, tapping ( that's Desire'), wringing, etc), small

head and

feet sizes, grind their teeth and are non verbal. About 50 percent

can walk and

out of those 50 % about 30% will lose the ability (Desire' can walk

but it is

diminishing and now she needs full assist) and about 50% have

seizures. Out of

those about 25% will have uncontrolled seizures (that's Desire').

Scoliosis is

also prominent, which is why we're here. Desire' is non-verbal but

uses a

communication device to communicate. She is notoriously happy and

easy going but

she has a stubborn streak a country mile wide. She loves movies

(Spiderman is

her all time fav right now), music and watching

her fish. School is her favorite pastime and she can't stand to miss

it because

of her many doctor appointments.

Desire' has a 45% positional idiopathic curve (mostly lumbar). The

neurosurgeon used the term " Neurogenic " if that helps. Even though

hers is not

fixed, yet, we are going to do do surgery because it is so aggressive.

She has

gone from 12 deg to 45 deg is 18 months. Her walking has diminished

in direct

correlation to the increase in her curve

So, my question is this....could an increased curve cause vomiting?

She is

sick AGAIN and it could just be a virus, we're just trying to rule

things out.

Like I said, we're going to get her AEDs checked, because one of the

could be

the culprit. And she could have just been lucky enough to get a virus

two times

in a row. Thanks for any help you can give me

Dear ,

Any info I could find on this comes from Chiropractors after I googled it, and I found lists of how they say scoliosis can affect the body, mostly patient questioneers, so I'd take it with a grain of salt, but they do say digestive problems, meaning reflux and the like. I think this would be best adressed by their ortho, as I don't know anything about her other medical problems. These lists though were interesting to me, as I had or have had many of the items listed, but I bet many would even if they didn't have scoliosis.
