The oil that is needed is made from the entire plant > and contains all the 60 or so active cannabinoids. The health food > product is made from seeds and comes from a strain of hemp used to > make fiber related products. It has no active cannabinoids. > Hemp was mentioned a little while back, and as I have been doing a bit of research today I thought I would pass on some of the snippets. I had bought some Hemp Oil in Queensland (HFS) in July but hadn't opened it (just noticed tonight that the use-by date was August!). Also noticed tonight that while it said Hemp Oil on the front, it said Hemp Seed Oil on the side - which apparently is not really the oil all the excitement is about - or is it? Some sites talk as if there is only one kind of plant, but another article draws the distinction between different varieties, and most sources don't refer to the latin nomenclature at all. Also, in general the terminology is inexact, interchanging hemp oil and hemp seed oil as if unaware of any difference, except on this site: " Is this the same as hemp seed oil? http://www.phoenixtears.ca/diy.html No! This is hemp oil, made from the bud and small leaves of the hemp plant. It is the essential oil of the hemp plant. Health food store sells oil made from hemp seed that is often mislabeled as hemp oil. Although seed oil is very beneficial, it does not contain enough THC to have any effect on cancer and other serious illnesses. To energize someone suffering from depression, I recommend a good Sativa strain. For most other medical conditions, I strongly suggest that Indica strains be used. Indicas relax a person and provide them with more rest and sleep. .... For someone new to making the oil I suggest that you go to " Run From The Cure " . There you can watch our documentary in seven segments. Segment #4 shows how the oil can be produced at home or one can go to Phoenix Tears Movie and download the full documentary. You will need a high-speed internet connection and there is no charge. The process in the video could only be described as crude at best, but the oil that is produced will cure cancer. In reality, this medicine should be produced in a controlled environment, using distilling equipment, etc. to reclaim the solvent and to purify the oil. " Also: This oil is very potent so one must begin treatment with small doses. A drop of oil about half the size of a grain of rice, two to four times a day is a good beginning. After four or five days, start increasing your daily dosage very gradually. As time goes on the body builds a tolerance to the oil and more and more can be taken. In cases where people are in a great deal of pain, I recommend that their dosage be quickly increased until it kills the pain. High quality hemp oil will stop pain even when morphine is not effective. The oil can be applied to external injuries for pain relief in minutes. http://ezinearticles.com/?Health-Benefits-of-Hemp-Oil & id=61184 - but this article says hemp oil is derived from hemp seeds. It also says: Is it Illegal? In short, no. The Latin name Cannabis sativa actually translates as 'useful hemp'! The confusion and concern often arises due to the fact that hemp seed/oil is derived from the plant Cannabis sativa, which is often incorrectly linked to the psychoactive substance, marijuana. The psychoactive ingredient of marijuana is the chemical THC, however the quantities of THC in hemp oil are so small that they are regarded as insignificant. In fact, for commercial hemp oil products to comply with Government regulations, they must contain less than 10ppm THC, which is very, very little. However, in the majority of products absolutely none can be detected. It would be almost impossible for this level of THC intake to measure even close to illegal levels during a drug urine test. Although the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced a worldwide ban on the sale of all hemp based foods and oils in 2001, this decision was condemned as illegal in 2004 following a successful appeal to the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Fransisco. http://www.thenhf.com/articles/articles_659/articles_659.htm Medical Veritas article also says it is made from the seeds. The International Medical Verities Association is putting hemp oil on its cancer protocol. It is a prioritized protocol list whose top five items are magnesium chloride, iodine, selenium, Alpha Lipoic Acid and sodium bicarbonate. It makes perfect sense to drop hemp oil right into the middle of this nutritional crossfire of anti cancer medicines, which are all available without prescription. . . Derived from hemp seeds (a member of the achene family of fruits) it has been regarded as a superfood due to its high essential fatty acid content and the unique ratio of omega3 to omega6 and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) - 2:5:1. Hemp oil, is known to contain up to 5% of pure GLA, a much higher concentration than any other plant, even higher than spirulina This is a Sircus article, with interesting information - but was it hemp bud oil or hemp seed oil used in the experiments? A article refers to The hemp oil produced from the Female Hemp Plant Bud and leaves, (the variety containing THC) So now we have introduced gender and leaves into the discussion also! http://www.ecostore.com.au/why%20hemp%20oil.html Other Diseases - A number of clinical studies suggest administration of GLA as preventive measure and as a treatment for multiple sclerosis, schizophrenic psychosis, and cancer. Multiple sclerosis occurs more frequently in geographical regions where the diet includes high amounts of saturated fats. Dietary supplementation of unsaturated fatty acids may have a positive effect on the course of the disease. In patients with schizophrenic psychosis disturbances are found in the fatty acid metabolism which might be treated through administration of essential fatty acids. It talks about hemp oil, refers to it once as hemp seed oil, and then says: Hemp seeds do not contain the drug tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive substance in marijuana. Minute amounts of THC may be transferred from the leaves into the oil during pressing. Those leaves again! Its page http://www.ecostore.com.au/why%20hemp%20seed.html says ,... there is no drug content in hemp seed. Just as there is no drug content in poppy seeds, even though they come from the plant that produces opium. It's just that poppies cannot make 75000 different products that compete with just about every industry that makes money for the rich people currently in power. http://www.sanihemp.com.au/web/massage.html?PHPSESSID=9fe5c09e97bed5d560a6a377ba\ 4e92ac is the site for the people producing the oil I bought. They say: In Australia The oil itself is perfectly legal. Hemp seeds are allowed in commerce if they have been sterilized in some way to prevent germination. This is usually done by subjecting them to heat. At the moment, the Ohio Hempery is importing sterilized seeds from Canada and extracting the oil here, but it hopes to get some sort of exemption from this requirement in order to be able to use the freshest seeds possible in the future.[sani Hemp Oil iscold pressed close to the point of harvest chilled and nitrogen sealed to ensure maximum freshness] In Australia and some other countries consuming Hemp Seed Oil is illegal. This however does not stop you from gaining many of the benefits by massaging the oil into the skin. This is in a plastic bottle. http://www.happyplanet.com.au/page.php?PageID=4 Hemp Oil is produced by cold-pressing fresh hemp seeds. Hemp oil is best not used in cooking, but as an edible nutritional oil. Production of hemp oil is usually carried out in a hydraulic screw press with a maximum heat of 45? C (110?F). Lower temperatures produce nutty, hazy oil. Higher temperatures produce darker, greener oil. More high-tech methods of producing oil include super critical fluid extraction (using carbon dioxide). Such methods are designed to efficiently extract the oil from the seed, without using petro-chemicals and ensuring a safe, low heat. Hexane extraction is used for non-food grade hemp oil, often used for paints. Hemp oil is best when unrefined as processing diminishes the nutritional value by de-naturing the essential fatty acids (EFAs). The best test for the quality of any oil is the taste test. It is easy to differentiate between the rancid, scratchy taste of poor quality oil and the smooth, nutty taste of superior oil. Hemp oil contains mostly the gamma form of vitamin E, a natural anti-oxidant that keeps the oil fresh. Nature does provide, but not necessarily for mass production and transportation. Buy fresh, and when possible, locally cold-pressed oil. Better still, press it yourself from fresh whole or hemp nut. Keep hemp oil in a dark glass bottle, in the refrigerator. (They sell it in glass). SOLD FOR SKIN USE ONLY IN AUSTRALIA. Suitable and safe for Human Consumption where legal. (Theirs comes from New Zealand). http://www.happyplanet.com.au/page.php?PageID=2 Henry Ford went on to build a car made from hemp plastic and run on hemp bio-fuel. Click on the link to you tube to see They also offer hempfeed for horses. So what I have gathered is that some people bend over backwards to emphasize that there is no THC in their product, but it still works, while the people at the forefront of use for cancer seem to maintain that the THC is necessary for use with cancer. The terminology is fuzzy, with hemp oil and hemp seed oil being used interchangeably except by phoenixtears, who insist that while hemp seed oil is excellent stuff, it is essential oil from the bud and small leaves that is needed for cancer, with THC being the active part. Some indicate that hemp plants are different from those used for mari juana, others see no difference. Hemp denotes the variety grown commercially. It is low in THC. http://www.medicalmarihuana.ca/strains.html indicates that the medical producers at GW Pharmaceuticals in the UK say that Sativa strains are more effective at relieving pain than Indica strains.
