Donna, unfortunately, they DID have me go wait after I had it done for just a few minutes, then they said it was okay to leave!! Yes, I'm sorry to say, this WAS my first one. A few people that know me well wondered what possessed me to finally start getting them now......as if I had some premonition, I don't know?! But, a lady who had it done over again says the bilateral views are the ones where they try to take pictures under the arm and the area around it, not just the breast......I remember being positioned several times to get it just right, however, I can't shake this feeling because they really didn't rush me and like I said, had me wait around a few minutes. On the other hand, if it were something serious, a call from my doctor would have been the proper procedure, they usually don't send a letter a week later if they definitely saw something. So, who knows?

I don't know what possessed me....no, nothing detected, even my well woman exam turned out fine, so I thought I'd go " all the way " ...that's what I get.......ignorance is bliss sometimes......I can understand why my father hated going to the doctor (and my own brother's one!) because he always said they scare the sh** out of you! Guest guest
I'm glad you got it over with and done. I'd take it as a good sign that they're expecting a followup in 6 months. I have fibrous breasts (though my poor little girls are small) and have had to have a couple of sonograms following a breast exam or mamo - because of the size of the cyst in each case. They both turned out to be clear on the screen, fluid filled - which is good - and also told me that when there's a fluid filled (non-serious type) cyst, it can actually get flatenned and burst during the first mamo and won't show on the second - but I'm not a Dr. - but am glad to learn that yours is something they'll want to monitor, not to immediately act on. G [ ] mammo I had the magnification mammogram today. I had to lean forward into the machine several times for her to get the view she needed but I didn't have to do any twisting. I was concerned they might need my body in a position I can't possibly get in. Maybe the average person would have twisted somewhat to get the other breast out of the way once they were "clamped" in the machine but I was able to "squish" it out of the way with my hand. It was more painful than the original mammogram but not too bad. And I didn't have to lean very far forward so there was no strain on my back - it was basically the leaning position we all had before revision! The tech said my doctor will make the final decision but most likely I'll just need to followup in 6 months for a repeat to see if there are any changes. Guest guest
They think it is just calcifications but my doctor will have to decide if he wants a biopsy done. I had one several years ago for something similar. So I'm hoping they will just monitor it because I haven't met my deductible yet and don't have $2000 to shell out for a biopsy right now. It was odd to lean forward after being upright for 9 months! The hardest part was having to lean forward and then raise my arm up as high as she wanted it. That was a very uncomfortable position. Guest guest
Peggy, I had a small lump removed last August and I still get phantom pain. my heart goes out to masectomy patients. > > They think it is just calcifications but my doctor will have to decide if he wants a biopsy done. Guest guest
I want to add my 2 cents to this. In Dec/07 I found a very smooth oval lump in my breast (I was 38 yrs old). I went straight to the hospital and got a mammo. They were 99% it was a cyst and not to worry about it. Almost 1 month later, the lump changed into something a little larger that felt like it had soft " erradically shaped " tissue surrounding it. I did not worry about it and by July/05 it was gone. In Aug/07 I got the EXACT same lump back and went for a mammo in Jan/08 (I was 41 yrs old). My Dr. nor I were worried about it. They found IDC in both breasts. The lump I could feel was medium growing. The other breast lump was slow growing. I don't have much use for statistics especially when it comes to these diagnostic machines. I believe that first mammo had a lot to do with the cancer diagnosis in the right breast. I had a lot of chest x-rays when I was kid as I always reacted to the TB needles. At that time they said these x-rays were not dangerous. Now they are documented as a contributing cause of breast cancer later on in adulthood.
