I used to grow okra when I lived in Texas and found that the best way

to eat it is raw. I would eat it straight off the plant. If you are

going to follow the six pieces per day protocol then this is the

easiest way to go. The slime factor is minimal when eaten raw. Put

it on a veggie plate whole, or slice and add to a salad. It makes

lovely wagon wheels. My two boys ate this without a whimper.

Add a tablespoon or two, batch size dependent of vinegar, apple cider

vinegar, etc. That will cut the slime and does improve the taste as

well. The acidity in tomatoes also has a similar effect. The

preferred way (stewed with tomatoes and onions) as mentioned is the

traditional favorite.

The battered and fried method is also good, add some ketchup and is a

preferred way for people who usually wouldn't eat it anyhow.

it kind of swims in a sea of warm mucous. Years later, at Cracker

Barrel, I tried okra for a second time - batter and fried. I can't

say I liked it the second time, but at least I managed to eat it

without gagging.
