Guest guest
Several have asked how would one go about mixing whey and fish oil, per the Duncan Crowe " Budwig revision " . I have no idea! Actually I don't think the cow idea would work very well, because I don't think cows would eat fish. And even if they did, it would probably really screw up their digestion, with their four stomachs and all. I think they are used to eating grass and hay and alfalfa. So what the heck is Crowe talking about? Maybe we should email him and press the issue. So what do I do??? Well, this is what I do. I add whey isolate (undenatured, pure as possible, etc.) to my CC then mix that together. I add about 1 " scoop " , which is about 25 - 35 grams of the stuff. If the mix is too thick, I add some yogurt or milk to thin it out a bit, but I try to keep it thick to facilitate the FO / sulphur bonding. I currently use 3 tablespoons of CC, 1 tablespoon of yogurt, and 1 scoop of whey. If the CC is runny, I omit the yogurt and add 1 more tablespoon of CC. Then I add 3 - 4 tablespoons of flaxseed oil, and blend it together with a stick blender. But the flaxseed oil only gets added and blended after thoroughly mixing the whey and CC together by hand with a spoon. If I could figure out a way to make a thick mixture just using whey isolate, I would do it. But as of now, it seems the only way to do this is to use the CC as a base to add the whey to. It seems you need some casein to make the mixture thick enough to facilitate the FO / sulphur bonding (cysteine and methionine). The whey has far more of these sulphur containing amino acids, per volume, than cottage cheese does. In addition, whey is slightly alkalizing. I don't know -- perhaps throwing whey and FO into a blender might bond the FO with the sulphur amino acids. But I think it would be way too thin. Oh yes -- the fish oil. Well, to be honest, I have not blended fish oil with the CC/whey. I imagine it would be the worst tasting thing on God's green earth (or brown earth here in California in the summer). So I just down several fish pills along with the FO/whey/CC mix and hope my body does the blending. The issue with the fish oils is this: while flax is high in omega 3's, flax isn't so hot on perhaps the most important omega 3's -- DHA and EPA. I've read that the body can convert some of the flax omega 3's to DHA and EPA, it doesn't convert nearly as much as needed by most people, especially those with cancer. The only really concentrated sources of DHA and EPA are fish oils. In fact, some suspect that DHA is the major player in cancer prevention and cancer regression. I was using NOW whey isolate, recommended by Duncan Crowe (but this recommendation is now 4 years old). I am going to switch to Life Extension " protein powder " which is really whey isolate, because that mix has significantly more lactoferrin added to it, which is supposed to do wonders for the immune system. Neither comes from pure cows, which does worry me. However, I'm pretty convinced that almost all the nasty stuff in the milk is removed through the intense microfiltration process that whey isolate goes through. I certainly would not use normal whey from non-organic cows.
