Guest guest
One person's obvious problem does not justify the thrust of the original article because of your case would you have thousands of men undergo often unnecessary treatment, treatment that in some cases will result in death as the direct result of Metastasis? Immediately upon finding a high PSA and perhaps that would be all some Urologists would need, a Biopsy would be suggested thereby creating the situation whereby 'seeding' of cancer cells might occur and instead of having a slow growing cancer, this poor soul might become one of the aggressive cases. Then there's the prospect that a cancer can be missed. It wouldn't be the first time. Let us examine the thought that thousands upon thousands of men will not just have screening, many will be aggressively treated because there is that very tiny minority out there. Remember, we're not talking about men with urination problems, burning, hesitancy etc, we are speaking about men with no symptoms. I suspect you were a very rare case to have a routine scanning detect a PSA over 400 and then be dx'd Stage IV with a Gleason of 9 and not have really serious symptoms. Regardless. it is encouraging that you have the situation under control. Congratulations. BTW, the last estimate of increased income if the screening were to become commonplace is an increase of $25,000 on average....just from so-called routine screening. Keep in mind it is the Medical profession itself that is questioning the efficacy of mass screening and our comments are running in that line of thought. Joe C.
