Guest guest
, I posted this message yesterday and got Elliot's reply which I appreciate very much. I would also value having your opinion. Here's my message: I have had a lymph node, near my right jaw, enlarged to about 2cm since right before New Years. I saw a doctor only because my right ear was also messed up. Now that doctor wants to excise this node due to my peritoneal breast cancer mets history. I know a couple of things: 1) this is not a typical bc mets spot, 2) it's not fixed and it's not rock hard, and 3) I wouldn't do chemo even IF there was something bad in that node. I also know it's right near my carotid artery and a bundle of facial nerves, neither of which do I want messed up! LOL His thinking is that if it IS something bad, it's best to get that node out before it spreads to other nodes. My question is, if chemo is not something that I would consider, is there any benefit to having that node removed? Would lightening the " tumor load " be of benefit without the option of chemo? Thank you for your input! xxoo
Guest guest
Hi , That sounds exactly like a lymph node that I've had for over two years now. My oncologist doesn't think it's cancer related. Some other kind of infection or sensitivity. It became enlarged at the same time that I developed some mysterious night-time nasal congestion. I still have both the congestion and the enlarged node in my neck. (However, six months after the lymph node became enlarged, we discovered my cancer had returned. But, the oncologist doesn't think it's related.) Hope this helps, Wanda (not ) > > , > I posted this message yesterday and got Elliot's reply which I appreciate very much. Guest guest
, Supraclavicular lymph node metastasis from the abdomen is almost always on the left. You would first palpate for Virchow's node in that area. You didn't mention exactly what is troubling your right ear. Yes, the two could be related. A biopsy or excision isn't necessary at this time, but I do encourage you to seek a radiologist who does ultrasound elastography.
