Molly,

I had about four of them within a week of surgery - along with Thrush but

they went away

in about another week.

Canker Sores

When I went to my PCP at one month post op, I told him I often have

an aftertaste in my mouth. He said the surgery had caused a

disturbance in the flora of my digestive system and that it would

settle down eventually.

Well, the aftertaste has diminished some, but now I have canker sores

in my mouth. Anyone else have this? I haven't been sick so I don't

know what could be causing them.

Thanks much.

Acidophilis will help to restore the flora in your

digestive system. I take it twice a day every day

just as a preventative. It helps to prevent any kind

of infection because it helps your body to fight off

bad bacteria. It's what is in yogurt - only a lot

more of it. You can buy it at any health food store.

You can't overdose on it.

At one time they were doing a study on it to see if it

really helped combat yeast infections. It worked so

well that they called off the test and gave it to all

patients in both test groups.

Also- any time you have to take an antibiotic you

should take a lot of acidophilis to helb rebuild the

good bacteria that the antibiotic killed off.

Dear Dorothy,

Yuck.

Try rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, 3%.

Then, spit.

Saul: thanks for information re: canker sores. It is for my friend who has

them.

If she has mercury fillings, is it okay for her to use peroxide rinse...?

not forever,

but for canker sores?

Dorothy:

Adel in her book 'Let's get well' recommended Niacinamide which

is a B vitamin. According to her research, canker sores are caused by

the incomplete digestion of food causing pimple like eruptions as the

body tries to get rid of the left over poisons.

I have used Niacinamide for years to deal with this (250 mg at each

meal) and have had good success with this treatment.

Hi Tom,

what does the Niacinamide (b- vit.) do? does it neutralize

the poison?

thanks

Hi Laurie!

They are not really poisons but more like byproducts that come from

incomplete digestion of food. Niacinamide helps the digetive process

which prevents these byproducts from accumulating at such levels that

force the body to eliminate them through canker sores.

Unfortunately I don't have the book with me, so all this is from my

recollection of what was said.

The most common cause of canker sores is a lack of ionized calcium in

the tissues. A few calcium lactate tabs and/or one or more T of flax oil

should remedy them in short time.

An 'old time' remedy that also works is to dab some bicarb on the sores;

it neutralizes the acidity in the tissues-----which get acid because of

the calcium deficiency!!

Hi, Lynea,

If they are canker sores, I have had good luck with applying straight

peroxide to them with a cotton swab. It stings, and foams like crazy right

over the sore. i do several swabs at a time, 2/day, and usually the sore is

gone in 3-4 days.

NOTE: don't use the same cotton swab to go back into the peroxide bottle

after it has been in your mouth - there can be enough cells & /or enzymes on

the swab to kill the whole bottle in a day or two. I use two sides, and both

ends.

Peridex is a general oxidizing agent, much like peroxide. It will work on

viral sores also.

what we do here (and I am NOT recommending this to anyone else!) is take a

drop of neat myrrh oil on a fingertip and touch it to the sore.

if I do that at bedtime, the sore is healed by morning.... what I

personally do for any 'inside the mouth' ouchie... sore gum, canker sore, etc.

My partner is currently undergoing chemotherapy...a 'cocktail' that's known

for causing severe sores inside the mouth. so far the myrrh is keeping the

sores under control...they start, but they heal quickly with a minimum of

discomfort.

needless to say, you want to GUARANTEE that you are using pure myrrh

essential oil, not something that's been thinned with DPG etc. Myrrh oil

should be VERY thick, sticky (molasses textured) and taste very bitter indeed.

Hi Barbara;

Neat means that the essential oil is not diluted, it is used as it comes out

of the bottle.

Thanks Emm...I'll try that....do you avoid certain foods or just continue eating

the same things?

What exactly is arginine? And spicy foods always seem to make it worse! I find

it interesting that they help you. But they are gone now! :) Yea! I cut down

on the pineapple! :)

Darius Partovi wrote:It is prudent to avoid all arginine-dominant foods.

These include:

Grains, nuts, seeds, brown rice (OK, it's a grain but just for

emphasis), soy, raisins (and other dried sweet fruits), chocolate, carob

Eliminate these, add the lysine, and emphasize lysine-rich foods such as:

Fish, eggs, dairy (not cow), beef (MEAT!)

Copious amounts of green tea and spicy foods (chiles=capsacinoids) also

help me.

Cheers,

P.S. As usual, your body is telling you what it needs. Give it more

lysine and you can add back in some arginine-dominant foods later.

Balance is the key. I actually just got two really bad canker sores

last week, tried to ignore them and buckled down with the same

recommendations I am giving you. They stopped hurting in 24 hours and

were gone in 48.

- I use to get cold sores as a child and as an adult if stressed

out, but since on the BTD, they are gone. M2c

Myrrh is what I have used for canker sores for years... it works better

than anything else...usually overnite.

can not count how many times I've suggested that to folks.
