Guest guest
Hi, I will try to explaing this all in a nutshell. Last month I had a stroke and at the same time almost died of liver failure. This all came about because of a liver cleanse my naturopath prescribed to me. Anyway, my liver is healing but I still have a LOT of edema in my belly and legs. Luckily, the swelling in the ankles and feet have gone down. I want to know if anyone has/is going through this and what they do for it. My calves are pretty tight feeling and I just always feel uncomfortable. It is hard for me to walk normally. My doctor said it would take 2-3 months or more to have the swelling go down. Also, I'm not sure what to do for diet because I'm on coumiden for the stroke and the things that I need to eat for the liver I'm NOT supposed to eat for coumiden. If anyone has suggestions PLEASE write back.....THANKS!!!!

What is your approximate age, and what kind of cleanse were you on for your liver that would cause a stroke? That sounds so extreme, perhaps you were prone to get a stroke and the stress of the cleanse triggered it, but generally liver cleanses do not cause strokes...nevertheless, I am so sorry you have been through this. Yes, if you are on Coumiden you do need to avoid things that have vitamin K in them, or other herbs, etc. that either further thin your blood or counteract what the blood thinners are trying to accomplish. I can list some diuretic herbs for you, but cannot take the time right now to research whether or not they are contraindicated...but they would help reduce the water in your tissues...Cornsilk, an herb that is actually the " hair " that is on an ear of corn has gentle diuretic properties. Also Dandelion, Parsley, Juniper Berry and Uva Ursi. I am writing quickly without looking to see what is in each of these to find out whether they may be contraindicated with the Coumiden, but maybe you could ask your doctor...especially about the common ones, Dandelion and Parsley. Also, you have probably been told to avoid salt as it tends to hold water in the tissues. Perhaps you need to find another good nutritionist in your area that will help you with what foods to eat and not to eat, even a medical dietician, though they do not always recommend the healthiest foods, should know what foods you should avoid. Guest guest
Dear , The best diet I have found is the Hallelujah diet. www.hacres.com I have chronic Lyme 24 years. I have suffered with stroke-like symptoms most of the time including loss of vision, numbness down my left side etc. I have been on this diet for over 3 years and had tremdenous improvement. I believe it is the consumption of animal products which causes cholesterol to build up in the liver in the first place. If you stop eating animal products and get into some RAW vegies, fruits, seeds and nuts, your circulation should improve a lot and you should heal much faster. Home made raw carrot juice is full of vitamins, enzymes, calcium, etc. You shouldn't feel hungry either as you will finally be getting good nutrition which your body can assimilate Hope this helps, Rosemary.. ----- Original Message ----- From: gallstones Sent: Monday, March 31, 2003 8:21 PM Subject: Need advice with liver!!
