Guest guest
Found in black cumin seed -- I've seen black cumin seed touted as a powerful anti-cancer agent. Interesting. > > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta-sitosterol > > This is being used to fight cancer in Europe. >
Guest guest
This sounds good as regards the uses of Beta-Sitosterol however there is one thought that needs to be considered. There is a school of thought that severe reduction in Cholesterol levels in the elderly might be a strong negative. With the brain one of the major users of Cholesterol it is believed by some that this lowering of cholesterol levels in the elderly can lead to senility and other mental declines. I do not know if Beta-Sitosterol lowers cholesterol levels to the concerned degree and I would like to know because I do use it for BPH, and in large doses. Unfortunately I also fit the 'elderly' definition too. Joe C.
Guest guest
You are correct in that I have read that if your cholesterol goes below 160 that there is an increased chance of a stroke. I also took large amounts of Beta-Sitosterol from BHP and it worked just fine. Then my cholesterol went down to 140 which my doctor thought was great but I knew better and decreased the amount of Beta-S to about one half of what I had been taking cholesterol went up to 180 and still no BHP problem. One has to take both into account. Guest guest
Jack: I didn't know about the stroke risk at Cholesterol levels lower than 160 but am persuaded about the risk of mental decline when cholesterol levels are very low in the elderly. Thanks for giving me more to research. Joe C.
