What is the niacin doing to me? I'm not really scared and am actually glad something is happening because I get really discouraged when I hear of people detoxing or supps helping while I never feel anything. So i'm taking it as a good sign that I am getting the flushing. What benefit does the flushing give us? > ++Hi . You probably started taking too much niacin, so cut back on the amount so you do not get such a severe flush, and only gradually increase it. Flushing means your body is getting rid of toxins, which are mainly radiation (from the sun, x-rays, ultrasound and other similar medical devices, and from microwaves or other electrical appliances, i.e. computers, TV, etc.). Here's the Niacin article that explains the benefits of it: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/niacin.php Bee

You got such a severe reaction because you took too much niacin, which should only be 50 mgs, not 500 mg. Bee

Guest guest
Hi a, I'm just curious why you would think that niacin would be harmful to the liver. It's a vitamin (B3) and is taken in low doses, so I can't see why it would be harmful. It's also found naturally in many foods. > > Bee, > > Is niacin harmful to the liver if used long-term? > > Thanks, > a >

Guest guest
I am sending one link, although there are more, about the sustained release niacin related to liver damage, in higher doses. Those higher doses are used to lower cholesterol. Perhaps that was reason the natural health doctor mentioned it. Bee does not want us to use that kind. It is usually more expensive. http://cholesterol.emedtv.com/niacin/niacin-flush-p2.html C. > > ***I've heard a doctor who is into natural health state that long term use of niacin is harmful to the liver and I also read it somewhere else recently. Guest guest
Most of these doctors do not know that the niacin must be flanked by sufficient quantities of other vitamins, such as A & D, B1, B complex, C, E, etc. If this is done, no bad effects should result. Unfortunately they don't do this and create an " artificial deficiency " in one or more vitamins. This could actually occur with any vitamin, not just niacin. E.g. give someone too much B complex and B1 without any C and the person will seem to develop scurvy. Guest guest
Hi Darlene, Sometimes you will get a flush and sometimes you won't. Sometimes I get what feels to be an 'internal flush' where I can feel tingling and blood vessels opening in my eyes or ears, but no actual flush on my skin. Don't be concerned if you or your son don't flush. The niacin is still doing its job. There is no need to increase the dosage. > > My son and I just started taking niacin and both had a moderate flush the first time we took it. Today we took it again and I had a very large flush, clear down to the tops of my legs; but my son didn't get one at all. Why didn't he flush? We are taking 50mg twice a day. Should his dosage be increased to bring about a flush? I read that those dealing with high blood pressure can increase to 400mg a day but wasn't sure what we should do. > Thanks, > Darlene >

I'm glad helped you with this, but I want you to know that if niacin (B3) is increased to 400 mg per day it also means you'd have to increase all of your other supplements along with it, so it isn't advisable. I take niacin about 1 hour b4 bkfst because the flush is far out-I get tomato like-kind of itchy and like to deal w/it b4 the kids wake up-while in FL would it be ok to take niacin only sometimes as this is the one supplement that shows my business too much-my sisters are not as welcoming to natural healing as I have become and turning tomato like in front of them is maybe something I don't want to deal with right now. is it ok to take the niacin only a couple of x's over the 2 weeks-meanwhile keeping everything else the same? ++++Hi Phyllis. You could also lower the dose so your flush isn't as noticeable. My friend has to take a granule of niacin because her flush is so severe, and she is very slowly increasing it. Guest guest
Hi Phyllis, For the first couple months of the cleanse, I wouldn't take niacin in the morning for fear of reacting while I'm on the bus, so I only took it in the evening but eventually I stopped flushing altogether so I take it at breakfast, too. I made the mistake once of taking it BEFORE my meal. Do you notice a difference if you take it after a meal? Also, I prevent mine from dissolving on the tongue by taking some water in my mouth, throwing the half-tablet in and swalllowing/more water. Hope that helps. Sorry your family is not supportive. > > *** Hey Phyllis: > > I have started taking niacin just before bed so my flush happens while I sleep. Guest guest
> > Bee, > Is it okay to take more niacin than the recommended 50mg twice daily. I have been reading L Ron Hubbard and alot of other good sources about taking high niacin doses. Would this be helpful in the short run/long run or should I stay away from high doses. Im thinking maybe just in the short run as an extra way to detox, but Ive read 3 grams can be successful in treating depression/schizophrenia etc..... Look forward to your reply. +++Hi Tony. Welcome to our group. I am very familiar with L. Ron Hubbard's Purification Program since I did it in 1983. You " can " take higher doses of niacin, but as Ron writes in his book Clear Mind, Clear Body, if you take more than 400 mg per day you " have to " increase the amount of many other supplements, so that isn't a good idea to do while you are on this program. However, there are numerous ways that my program detoxifies and also helps depression - see these articles: How to Detoxify Effectively: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/detox.php Anxiety & Depression, Help For: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/treat6.php Please ensure you read two important articles, so you understand candida, and know what you need to do and why: 1) How to Successfully Overcome Candida http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro2.php 2) Curing Candida, How to Get Started http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro1.php For encouragement and inspiration see these wonderful Success Stories by members of this group: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/success/index.php The best in health, Bee

Guest guest
Well, let me share my experience. :-) I bought some niacin yesterday at whole foods. They only had the 1000mg dose. I figured what the heck I'll take it and see how it goes. Well......I turned bright red for 3 hours. It felt like I had a bad sunburn all over my whole body. I even felt cold even though my skin was hot just like when you get a bad sunburn. Interestingly it showed my bikini lines and I haven't worn a bikini in the sun for probably 15 years! My heart was pounding too..which scared me a little bit. I also didn't sleep at all last night which I assume was because of all the toxins this released into my body.....the same 'ol insomnia that has plagued me for years. Thus, I will be looking online today for niacin 50mg!!!!! Carole ******************************************** > Is it okay to take more niacin than the recommended 50mg twice daily. Guest guest
Carole - oh my goodness!! Wow! I feel that way (including a little scared) on the 50mg sometimes. Guest guest
Carole, when i first started taking my nutrional yeast my 5 yr old daughter would ask me " why is my face so red? " i did not even realize it was red but that expalined why i was feeling hot...lol The flush the more i take the nutrional yeast is getting less severe the more i take it. I guess because the toxins are getting released. April > > Well, let me share my experience. :-) > I bought some niacin yesterday at whole foods. You really did a number on yourself! Yes, you were detoxifying big time! You can cut up the 1,000 mg tablet (like take a small chip of it ?). When I did the Hubbard Purification Program in 1983 every one of my bathing suits showed up on my skin, so I know what that's like. But the amount of the niacin was slowly increased and carefully regulated, and when we took more than 400 mg we had to increase other supplements too. But don't be concerned just taking it this one time. Here's to detoxing the hard way! Cheers, Bee

Most people do take extra niacin in addition to the Nutritional Yeast Flakes, and that's okay. That's great you love the egg drink. I have it every day too. I'm happy you are committed to this program Tony. Good for you! Also remember that life-long health is dependent upon getting " proper nutrients " (and eliminating toxins and damaging foods of course) according to the principles of this program. I take 200 mg niacin twice daily. I used to take nutritional yeast flakes daily and have run out but now that I have access to the liver I would like to eat it as the raw liver drink described on your site instead of ordering more of the yeast. I dont want to incur any imbalances is why I ask the question of how often I should eat it and if eating the liver will help as much as the nutritional yeast flakes... +++Hi Tony. You couldn't get enough B vitamins consuming the Raw Liver Drink even once a day, since it only contains 1/2 to 1 ounce of liver. 1 ounce equals 28 grams, and 100 grams of beef liver contains: ..23 mg B1 (thiamine) 3.32 mg B2 (riboflavin) 13.5 mg B3 (niacin) 7.2 mg panthothenic acid 1.1 mg B6 (pyridoxine) I think you should take nutritional yeast flakes or Vitamin B complex consistently every day instead of trying to substitute with raw liver, or even by eating liver. I wil remove Raw Liver from the supplements list. Bee
