Guest guest
The medicinal resins in cannabis are oil soluable. There was a recipe posted earlier about putting coconut oil and water and hemp into a pot and boiling it for 4-6 hours. This would work equally well for butter or margarine, although the coconut oil is better for you. When you take the mixture off the heat, the vegetable matter separates out into the water and the medicinal resins are in the oil. When the oil hardens, it rises to the top of the oil / water mixture and hardens. You then take it off the water and use it in cooking, and simply discard the water with the vegetable matter. But be careful. In my wilder youth, we made hemp butter and used it in making brownies. I ate one brownie and 20 minutes later nothing was happening, so I ate another. Then 20 minutes after that I was so zoned out I could hardly move. In reality, it was not pleasurable at all. And, of course, you don't want to leave such confections around if unsuspecting people might consume them. To me, it felt exactly like smoking the stuff, but without the coughing and gunk in the lungs. For cancer killing effects, I would love to try Rick Simpson's method of making the black tarry substance from hemp, which is supposed to both kill cancer and to have relatively minimal psychoactive effects. (I don't particularly like the " high " that hemp gives, preferring natural alterness and awareness.) Mike has posted brief instructions for that, and they are also on YouTube. The Youtube method uses very volatile substances in a crock pot and is potentially very dangerous from a fire standpoint. I like the idea of using milder vodka or perhaps Everclear, boiled off in a crockpot with about a pound of hemp (leaves, buds and stems) until all that remains is the black, tarry substance -- the concentrated cannabinoid oils. I guess it would be safest to put the crockpot outside, powered by an extension cord, in a safe zone so that if a fire occurs, it can easily be contained. If you want to try this, I guess you should watch the Rick Simpson YouTube video, but use vodka or Everclear instead of the nasty stuff proposed in the video, and be aware that there still is a strong fire danger. And, of course, the fact that marijuana is illegal in many states, even for medicinal purposes. I believe I could do this legally, living in California, as long as I had some sort of prescription from my doctor. Check your local laws.
