Barb, I am with JB. It's not that hard to trim your posts. Every email

discussion list I've been on periodically reminds its members to trim their

posts out of consideration for members who choose to subscribe to the digest

version. The way this list is currently run, the signal to noise ratio is about

5%.

I am shocked by the arrogance of your response, telling a member how to access

the content here. Have you been named co-moderator and I missed it?

I am on this list because I value the content and the contributions that its'

members make. Individual email would be too much of a distraction at work so I

subscribe to the digest. If you don't want people to use it, perhaps you should

disable that option.

JB expressed exactly what I have been thinking for over a year now.

I did not say to get individual emails. I said to read on the web. Are people

not familiar with how easy that is? Go here and see.

Digest drives me nuts because of it's format with untrimmed posts. You can post

every day for people to trim their posts, but they won't, and you're creating

noise yourself by doing that.

Email would just clutter up my inbox.

Reading on the web solves both problems; you just tune in when you want to.

You fail to see how it is equally arrogant for someone to tell me to trim my

posts. They are telling me what to do, why is it any different if I tell them

what to do? Phil gave even better reasons why the problem is never ever solved,

and there are always new members.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I remain a web reader . . .

Arrogantly yours,

Barb

Digests aren't too bad on lists where people clean up after themselves. It just

needs to be encouraged.

You do know that this is an email discussion list, don't you?

It is just courtesy and it reduces bandwidth.

Phil is right to suggest that people rename old threads when they start new

topics. That and trimming off irrelevant verbiage would contribute considerably

to the utility and readability of this fine list.

I can see that I am fighting a losing battle so I will retreat into the

woodwork.

Hello,

I always like to keep at least one previous post in my replies. When you

are quickly scanning different posts, sometimes the post does not make sense

unless you know what the previous post was about. Dr. , who sometimes

has delayed replies, has replied here a few times and cuts off all previous

posts in his replies; many times, I am not sure exactly what he was replying

to (unless I go back and try to find the original thread).

However, sometimes I am guilty of being lazy and not trimming my posts as

much as I should, too.

For me, I use Outlook for my email and I have " rule " stating that all emails

with " " in the subject line are automatically moved into a

separate folder. I believe you can do this with most online email sites,

too (like Hotmail, , Gmail).

Another option, especially for people at work, is to setup a separate email

account to use for this group. This way, you do not have to worry about

being bothered at work and you do not have to worry about trying to read

through extremely long digest messages (especially considering the amount of

activity in this group).

Besides, many corporations have email retention policies setup stating that

even if you delete an email message from your company inbox, the company

still keeps a copy of it for up to 7 years. Employers always have the right

to monitor any and all email messages you send/receive from your company

email account. Do you really want your employer knowing about your personal

medical issues?

Here is what I do I don't have the posts here come in my main Email account. I

have a free Email account with .com so when some one posts it comes in my

Email not my main one. This way I don't get postings mixed up with my

reg. Emails.

You can set this up by going to the home page click on Edit Membership. Choose

the email address that you would like group messages sent to.

In Step 2. Message Delivery pick how you want to read posts. I just say Web

only.

Yes, that would work for all of us. What doesn't work is when the previous post

is also deleted

and then we don't know what you are replying to.

Since there have been a lot of discussions going on lately, the posts have

been getting very long because people just let everything come along from

the previous posts.  I am on digest and my e-mail program does not allow me

to skip over what I don't want to read...so I have to scroll through all the

long posts to get to what I want.

Please only add what you are replying to in your response...that way it will

be less confusing for everyone.  People's comments won't get mixed up.  And

in some cases you don't need to add anything from the previous post to add

your comment.

Just my 2 cents.  :)  Susie

This is just a reminder to trim your posts before you send them in to the group.

It will help the moderators to approve messages faster.

Thank you.
