Guest guest
I am sure that you have all heard of the cancer preventative attributes of Tea, and yes both Green and Black teas have antioxidants that can scavenge the body for free radicals More specifically, teas in general contain what are called polyphenols such as: Green Tea – EGCG, EGC and EC (Catechins) Black Tea – theaflavins and thearubigins All have antioxidant activity! Recent studies in cell culture and animals have shown that tea polyphenols/catechins can – inhibit tumor cell growth – induce apoptosis (Programmed Cell Death – cancer cells lose this necessary function) – protect against UV damage – inhibit angiogenesis and tumor invasion – can also modulate immune system funtion Green Teas have also been shown to activate detoxification enzymes such as: glutathione S-transferase and quinone reductase, (Layman's Terms – Cancer Preventative) So the next time someone invites you over for a cup of tea, join them. Green tea does have more catechins than black tea, but the both are a good source of polyphenols and both can help with our fight against cancer. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/prevention/tea
