Guest guest Posted August 6, 1999 Report Share Posted August 6, 1999 Janet: My father had a tumor on his liver. He had a new treatment called Radio Frequency Ablation. What this procedure does is to insert a needle through the abdomen to the liver and - via ultrasound - locate the tumor mass(es). The surgeon then opens up the tip of the needle which resembles an upside-down umbrella to rest on top of the tumor. I do not believe it penetrates the tumor per se. A current is applied to the probe which raises the temperature of the tumor to 212 degrees F. This essentially " fries " the tumor(s) - much like an hard boiled egg. My Dad had a pretty big tumor wrapped around the artery of his liver - rendering it inoperable, they told him to basically get his " affairs in order. " An euphemism for " there isn't anything we can do... " until this new procedure came along. After undergoing the RFA, he developed a fever of 101 for a couple of weeks. Turns out the tumor was dead and leeching toxins into his bloodstream. His white cells were fighting the infection from dead tumor cells. So the surgeons inserted another needle - this time to insert a tube to pierce the tumor and to drain it. A lot of pretty awful stuff came out. Right now he is getting back on his feet.. Tumor has shrunk to a fraction of its original size and recent CAT scans show an empty shell. There is some talk about going in (operating) and removing the shrunken tumor...but it is now a wait and see kind of approach. Another patient undergoing this treatment in another hospital (closer to where I live) had multiple tumors (about 8 or 9) all over his liver. He had RFA and last we heard he is walking 5 miles a day and enjoying a new lease on life. Radio Frequency Ablation is pretty neat because it does not require surgery or radiation or chemo, and only takes an overnight stay. In a recent case study in California, 12 patients underwent this procedure. One year later, 9 of the 12 are enjoying a much better quality of life. Some are in remission, some are under control, and some are touch and go. This is a 75% success rate. Hospitals I know of, that perform RFA are Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, VT and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. There are undoubtedly many others that perform this procedure in the US, but those are the only two I personally am aware of. Check out RFA on the web and you will get a small but definitive body of information. As a sidenote, it helps to strengthen the person's liver with liver-specific supplements such as Milk Thistle. Between my sis and I we found MANY useful alternative treatments that my dad used. His doctors were amazed at how well he did considering the stage that he was in at the time... they put a question mark beside his name on his medical chart because they couldn't figure it out!!! Unfortunately, my dad lost his battle this past July 11... but please do not let this scare you from finding out all that you can from the knowledge and contacts that I have acquired since I began to help my dear sweet dad on his journey into uncharted territory!!! C slow release and Intra an immune system build up. He is doing well and his doctors are very pleased with him. Something seems to be working. You must start now with some alternative treatment. If you don't mind, please share with me the protocol you used to heal yourself. I am healing but not there all the way yet, my Sr.Protine continues to inch upwards each month and my Red Count down slightly. My Onocologist/Hematologist stated today that if it continues to go up he will insist on Chemo (which I have avoided all this time )to make room in the bonemarrow for healthy cells to grow. I suggested it would lower the Red Count even more and he said it was a Double edged Sword. Hope to hear what all you have been doing. My wife has breast cancer that metastasized to her bones, liver, lung and just recently an MRI showed that it also invaded her brain. Her symptoms were abrupt. two weeks ago, we still do ballroom dancing, then all of a sudden, she became dizzy and weak. That's when we found out that she has a large tumor in her cerebellum. Right now, I am in a frantic mode finding out the best alternative medicine there is. I am using the internet to find all the availble AltMed and found out ESSIAC and SPES which looks like have promised as both has clinical and laboratory data plus testimonials from Doctors themselves, to support their claim of helping out cancer patients. I will share with you whatever information I have. Re your query about Resperin who manufactured ESSIAC, I am not aware of its presence in Scandinavia. There are many companies claiming to be the genuine ESSIAC product, by I put my faith to the one made by Resperin company based in Canada. Why don't you write Resperin company directly and see if they have a branch in your country. My wife is taking ESSIAC since last Sunday. Today will be her 8th dosage of ESSIAC and quite honestly, I couldn't see any improvement yet as she is also undergoing radiation to the whole brain. I have arrange with the Radiologist that after the 20 treatment, an MRI needs to be conducted to determine the results of either the radiation treatment or the ESSIAC. You live near Germany. They have a much more active alternative movement. Is there any hope of getting in touch with them? The Codex regulations are trying to impose the system you are suffering under on the rest of the world, together with the German Pharmaceutical companies. Can you tavel to a neighboring country? There have been successful clinical trials of Dr.Burzynski's antineoplastons for liver cancer conducted in Japan. I don't know if that can help you. There have been some reports of success using Ozone therapy in liver cancer. Is that available there? I know Ozone is used in Europe especially in Germany. Do you have any homeopathic doctors in Norway? They might have something. Can you get fresh organic vegetables to juice? Carrots and dark leafy greens like spinach,collards, swiss chard and mustard greens are good.You may have to meet some people in Norway who know what is available or go through some kind of political action to loosen the resrtictions being imposed on you. But that may take a while. In the process of seeking this kind of change you might be exercising the sense of empowerment and feeling that You or your relative is taking his health into his own hands essential for a recovery. Dr.d'Adamo says that some Blood types don't do well on a vegetarian diet. How is Donna getting oter B complex vitamins? arnold liver cancer I have read with interest the views dealing with liver cancer of late, and while I agree with most of it, I thought the group may wish to read of some of the things we have come up with while healing my wife of the disease. Donna was diagnosed in 1997 with cancer of the bile duct, liver metastases and "shadows" on her lungs. Her condition was such that the doctors believed that it was a waste of resources to treat her with any of the western medicine options and so we were left with a prognosis of four weeks and none of the options that we had heard about (chemo etc). I now believe that chemo is probably the worst thing one can do for liver cancer, but that is not why I write here. Broadly speaking, there are three groups which drive 85% of all cancers, these are nutrition, emotions and virus. The first thing we did was to identify the virus which was involved with Donna's cancer. Of course, most liver cancers have Hep. B involvement, but we found that in our case, Epstein Barr was also involved and I immediately obtained homeopathic immunizations against these virus. Donna at that stage was unable to even swallow so I rubbed them on her stomach in order for them to be absorbed. I then addressed the nutritional aspect of the diet and did the things we hear about on this list day by day - elimination of animal protein etc. We also cut out all caffeine, sugars, salt etc. I found that Donna was subject to infection as the only thing the doctors did in those early days, was to insert two external biliary drains. As these had to flushed each day, infection was an ever present danger and in fact, she was subject to infection for the first four months or so. I found that by eliminating not only sugar, but also fruit and later on high carbohydrate foods, any infections were brought under control. She hasn't had an infection now for 2 1/2 years. (nor does she have the external drains - the removal of which I have never heard of in this country) The average time to clear infections using diet was about a week. It was about this time that I discovered through a friend's research that grains in fact cause the immune system to not function at it's peak. The lectins in grains disguise the communication between CD4 & CD8 T cells, thus causing the immune system to function below par. This research was carried out through the National Institute of Biological Medicine here in Australia over a period of years and has involved over four thousand people so far. A couple of other things we did from day one - Swedish Bitters has been a consistent and twice daily thing. This product can be used from everything from cuts and abrasions to internal (as Donna takes it ) medicine. In fact I did use it to make a paultice for her liver in the early days. I used pads soaked in the stuf and wrapped in cabbage leaves then placed over her liver. It was at this time that the tumours started to recede) It consists of a range of bitter herbs and I think this may be related to B17 although I have no proof. Liver Tone is another liquid herbal preparation as is Astra Forte to improve the immune system. Essiac has been taken every day. One other decoction which I believe is partly responsible for my wife's recovery is a preparation made from 3 parts calendula to 1 part each of stinging nettle, horsetail, yarrow and red clover. This is made each day in something like a coffee plunger and simply refilled each time it runs out. A new brew is made each day. This flushes the kidneys and so assists in reducing pain in the groin and lower back which poor kidney function will do through the involvement of muscles in this area. Cancer of the bile duct (cholongiacarcinoma) is rare and healing from it is rarer and as a consequence, Donna has received National exposure in this country through TV and magazines (she now has no cancer in her liver, bile duct or lungs) and because of this she counsels many people with cancer thus her emotional involvement in the disease is addressed daily through this work, however, for those who do not have this benefit, may I say that the elimination of most things negative is necessary. Remember that all actions come from a thought. Positive thoughts positive actions and for this reason, it is my belief that mediation should be a daily practice. Look at those who experience a so called miraculous recovery, and the majority of them practice meditation daily. Do not allow your thinking to become narrow. I have been a member of this list now for a couple of years, but found that at times it was best to delete (sorry Bob) incoming mail because there for a while things simply got out of hand. Even now I will delete what appears to be negative or argumentative because I simply dont want that in my life - and we are never all going to agree anyway. Regarding vaccines and immunizations - we have used homeopathic preparations including autogonous vaccines from our naturopath. We imported one from Tokyo once at a cost of 240000yen. The homeopaths cost $12.50. and work just as well. The supplements Donna takes include the strongest preparations from the local health food shop only, and include the range of vitamins with the exception of B group, selenium and herbs directly targeting the liver such as St 's Thistle licorice Root and dandelion although I was careful to introduce liver herbs gradually as some of these cause increased bile flow from the liver, which is not wanted with this disease. I have recently learned that a chemo patient should not take multiple Vitamin suppliments because of the folic acid due to it's action in helping red blood cells to divide? If this is true. Are there any multiple Vitamin suppliments for a patient recieving chemo (to help build the immune system) that does not contain folic acid? Thank you.
