Erection Problem(s)

Hello...I'm 42 and on Androgel...8 pumps per day. My levels are lower than what

I'd like, but

my Urologist says it's fine...Level is around 250-300. Last checked 6 months

ago.

I have good AM erections...Some last for quite a while and can be quite

uncomfortable.

However, in the evening, my penis just doesn't want to cooperate. I take long

acting

decongestant every Am upon waking (12 hrs). I'm also on chronic pain meds...So

that can

also be a big part of the problem. My refractory period is quite long...Usually

48 hrs. I can

get an erection the next day, but it comes and goes...up and down, if that makes

sense.

My Low T is pain med related...The more I take (tolerance), the lower it gets.

There's no way

around the pain meds due to the chronic pain I have.

Any ideas? Advice would be much appreciated.

Hello Chris.

Good that you can get morning erections, but that level of T is at the

cutoff point of hypogonadism. You shouldn't have to tolerate such a

low level as " normal " (assuming the test was accurate, taken at the

right time, & is reflective of your average levels throughout the

day). Between 600-1000 ng/dL total testosterone is a good number to

aim for, though the gel probably won't bring you up that high.

Hopefully, your test result is reflective of the moment immediately

before you administer your next dose.

Do you have test results for your estrogen levels? Estrogen/estradiol

can sensitize pain perception. & though it isn't the primary purpose

of T, is Androgel helping reduce the pain at all?

What is the nature of the pain? Some men here have complained about

joint pain while on Androgel that subsided when they switched to

shots. Depending on the type of pain, a different type of

testosterone might help. Though you had this issue before TRT, it

might be addressed somewhat by the right type of TRT for you.

Thanks for the response!

My pain is migraine pain and facial pain. So, I take a pretty good level of

narcotics. I didn't start showing low T symptoms until I started increasing my

dosages. Narcotics effect the pit gland, which slows everything down. My pain

mgt doc said that most of his male patients end up on some form of HRT.

I have no idea about my estrogen level. I have an appt in a week with the URO.

What exactly should I be asking him?

Do you think my low level T is responsible for my erection problems?

Chris
