State health department orders office mold removed

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.

The state Health Department has directed Garland County to remove mold

growing on the walls of several county offices.

The state Labor Department made a similar recommendation in a follow-up

visit.

A contractor toured the Garland County Courthouse on Tuesday to look at mold

in the treasurer, circuit clerk and the county election commission's

offices. An eradication company is expected to inspect the offices and

provide an estimate, according to , a county safety

coordinator.

" Right now we're in the very preliminary stages of determining what to do, "

said.

He said the Health Department also recommended the county investigate

sealing the whole building after noticing dry bricks on its exterior. A

waterproof seal was put on two sides of the courthouse last December to stop

water damage in the office.

Health Department inspectors found mold growing on plaster and sheetrock

walls in four rooms of the treasurer's office, according to a Jan. 25

report.
