Guest guest
I was diagnosed with Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism about 8 years ago or so. Went on the standard shots and I got some relief but not much. My T levels ranged from 190-250 ish. After getting shots for a short time, my levels made it to 400 or so. But I was getting very severe muscle " fullness feeling " , tightness and bad pain in my lower back. Stopped the shots and the pain eased and went away. Tried the patches, and that did not work at all. Tried androgel and that did not help either, too much annoyance for little gain. Stopped taking and treat and just dealt with the typical symptoms. I can get what I had for dosages when I get home, but from what I remember they were very high A couple years ago I decided to try again and tried shots again with the exact same problem, then the gel which did not work well. I did quite a bit of research and I did not see where the pain and tightness in my back was supposed to associated with shots, but every time I have tried the shots, it comes right back. It would get so bad that walking more that 100 yards was excruciating. I tried pain pills and muscle relaxers with no relief. I would really like to find a treatment that would get my levels to upper normal levels, so I can be energetic. I am 43 years old and I have never felt energetic, I do not have that drive that is typical " male " . Libido is low. Does any of the newer research show any links between t therapy and back pain, or could it be that raising my t lowered something else and that caused it. I would absolutely love to be at a point where I am chasing my wife around the house like a teenager... Mark
Guest guest
Try HCG start doing 100 IU's shots every day HCG acts like the LH message from your brain that tells your testis to make testosterone. So if your testis work good the HCG will tell your testis to make there own testosterone. If you get pain from this I will be shocked. Guest guest
Hi Mark, You were not treated right by that doctor. Often doctors give their patients one HUGE shot every 2-4 weeks. This results in a gigantic surge of testosterone, so much so much of it can be turned into estrogen. Then after about 10 days after the shot you start to crash, testosterone does not last that long. The best way to do injections, in my opinion, is to self inject twice a week. You also have to run estrogen blood work to make sure estrogen is not getting out of hand. Twice a week injections result in a stable blood level of testosterone...just like you had when you were young. I am positive you can achieve a youthful level of testosterone and feel well again. It's not you, from the sound of it, your doctor was an amateur. Neil MarkTimon wrote: > > I was diagnosed with Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism about 8 years ago > or so. Guest guest
Mark, Thank you for joining this group. I have just rejoined myself. You are not alone with this condition. I have also had it for about the same time you have had it but for a much different reason. I will share the cause in a different posting later. I have no idea why you are having back pain and also why treatment has not worked well for you. I will do my best to do some research for you and will let you know if I find anything. I know this has been very tough for you and your spouse. Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone with this. I am struggling with depression and have even gone so far as to consider committing suicide. This group has been a great help in dealing with this horrible condition and has helped pull me from the edge. You have taken a great first step in joining the group. God bless you and thank you for your support. > > I was diagnosed with Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism about 8 years ago > or so. Guest guest
Hi Mark, I've got a screwed up pituitary gland, probably from too much head trauma (used to be a crazy man on a dirt bike). Because of this I also have hypothyroid and adrenal fatigue. When I first started with Armour and a generic T gel, I wound up having lots of energy and started working out like crazy. My back started hurting like I'd been kicked by a mule. This turned out to be my adrenals complaining about having to work harder to keep up with the rest of the system. If it turns out that you have adrenal issues, you may have to go on a corticosteroid like Hydro Cortisone to help your adrenals keep up. You may also need some help with your thyroid. Here is a good site to find out more about these conditions: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ It would be a good idea to get a thyroid panel done. This would make any thyroid problems very evident. Adrenal issues wouldn't show up on any of the regular blood tests, but you can get a saliva test from canaryclub.org to see what your adrenal rhythm is. You collect saliva 4 times throughout the day. If you have adrenal fatigue, the levels will be low. Since starting on thyroid and testosterone replacement my quality of life has improved dramatically. That full muscle feeling is a good thing! Overnight I doubled the amount of weight I could lift once I started on the shots. Good stuff! Good luck! -Mike > > I was diagnosed with Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism about 8 years ago > or so. Guest guest
Good job Mark, We did this FAQ's at STTM before the fourms were closed this is full of info and good links. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/faq/ All the mods started up this site from STTM. http://www.realthyroidhelp.com/ And did this FAQ's on Hypopituitary Problems like you and I have. http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=12 & t=256 Co-Moderator Phil > From: Mike Lawson <mlawson66@...> > Subject: Re: Just found this group and have some questions > > Date: Monday, August 11, 2008, 12:15 PM > Hi Mark, > > I've got a screwed up pituitary gland, probably from > too > much head trauma (used to be a crazy man on a dirt bike). > Because of this I also have hypothyroid and adrenal > fatigue. > > When I first started with Armour and a generic T gel, I > wound > up having lots of energy and started working out like > crazy. > My back started hurting like I'd been kicked by a mule. > This > turned out to be my adrenals complaining about having to > work harder to keep up with the rest of the system. > > If it turns out that you have adrenal issues, you may have > to > go on a corticosteroid like Hydro Cortisone to help your > adrenals keep up. Guest guest
Sounds like we may have hope Mark! I am on test. and Armour and have been having on and off middle back pain. I had pain so bad last night I had to resort to taking a Vicodin. I was just diagnosised with Adrenal Insufficiency and will be starting to ramp up on hydrocortisone tomorrow. I am hoping the fatigue and back pains go away. This even the blood levels far more than most methods. (Some like even more frequent shots). But most doctors don't pay attention to E2 (estradiol) levels. Testosterone therapy raises E2 levels which robs you of the impact of T - E2 out competes T for many binding sites and it also causes feedback to the brain impacting hormone chemistry. You should have had E2 tests before starting T and you should definitely have them afterwards to find the right level for yourself. Most of us manage E2 with arimidex or Diindolylmethane (DIM) a supplement (only mildly effective good for small excess levels). Also read the treatment guidelines. Doctors are horrible at treating this condition - most of us have to self educate and then educate our doctors (even or especially endos). http://www.aace.com/pub/pdf/guidelines/hypogonadism.pdf Keep coming back here. This is the best resource out there. It's gotten many of us the treatment we needed and deserved and gotten our lives back.
