Guest guest
Welcome Debbie, glad you found us. Now you know it's not you, you're not doing anything wrong. This is brain chemistry -- as everyone here will attest to. CK, Mom to Ian (2/89), (9/90), and Rose (6/94)
Guest guest
Hi Debbie and welcome. Some days are pretty long, eh? We've certainly had to rearrange a lot of our life to accommodate Andy, who is 12. I have a couple of questions. But before I ask them, let me chime in with: it's not *you*. It's something, but it's not *you*. If school is having no problems and is an exemplary student, have you asked them to teach you their techniques? To come and do a home assessment? Part of the 1997 revisions for IDEA discusses the notion that if the interventions are not successful outside of the classroom they're not an effective outcome---thus training needs to occur to all those who are workign with the child. heh heh. Put the responsibiliyt on them to share their marvelous success (she says with a cynical grin). Second, what do you do when things are tough? Are you using any visual strategies or reward plans or or or? I'm sure you've run the gamut and tried tons of things. But one thing I know is that this is an incredibly creative and supportive group. No one will judge you, but they will toss out all sorts of great ideas, stories, and empathetic moments. Havey ou discovered the bookmarks and files on the webpage to this group yet? There might be something there that seems novel to you and will be interesting to everyone. Or maybe not. Maybe youall need a vacation from each other! That's not unreasonable either. (Do you have some respite?) Anyway. I hope you received the newsletter I sent. If not, it's on it's way. Take advantage of this group---I'm pretty certain there's nothing you can tell us that we've not already discussed and *someone* has lived that day too. You're NOT alone. hugs, j

This is the very issue at stake in our battle with the CSE. Our CSE chair thinks that as long as Ian's behavior in school is adequately supervised, his behavior outside of school is not her responsibility. Guest guest
hi debbie nice to meet you, my nathan will be 10 this wednesday on the 8th of august, getting ot be soo big. This is the place to be, everyone is very caring and we all help eachother out. As for the store, it sounds like it may be overwhelming for eric, too many sounds, too many people, unfamiliar maybe. Many of our kids have horrible tantrums when not doing activity they prefer, especially highly sensory ones. Nahtan use to not go anywhere with lots of people too, the pool, a restaraunt, school, store, try to leave constantly or do that wet noodle having to drag or carry him, occasional yelling but not much. With behavior management, meds, and frequent exposure nathan has come to tolerate most of these places well, even interacts according to environment. Maybe for the store, you can make a social story about it for eric and read it with him, then go to store, but start off small, maybe have eric help get a gallon of milk or what ever, just one or two things then get reward of choice eg home or pop whatever eric likes. And gradually increase the visits to store and eventually eric will be able to go shopping no problem. Sometimes it just requires a choice item in the store to go shopping. Like nathan is getting into " toys " lately especially cars, with the final removal of shoestrings(selfstim) through behavior management, now nathan plays with cars and trucks often, lineing them up over and over, but playing appropriately some too. Or a video or video game are always high on the list too for shopping. As for the hitting, unsuccessful in nathan occasional bouts of hitting or biting, usually it means he is depressed or stressed try to find the factor and eleminate if possible or slow down some on goals, take a holiday. And if nathan hits or bites his little brother he has to say he is sorry and hug nicholas (8yrs), and lately we either make him sit on the stairs or go to his room for a timed period, but he use to never be able to do this for of punishment, he has just gorwn developed enough to understand this recently, before we would tell him NO! and do the hugging and apologies and make nathan sit with us beside him no tv or vidoegames etc for a short timeout, now our time outs range from at least 5min, when he has been really bad he will go to his room lay on his bed, occasionally cry, or yell out, but then either sleeps or comes down around 10-15min later, saying " whew, all, better " ---(the talking has been developing over this last year, before he used sign or pics) I dont know if this will help, this has been our experience, its NOT YOU, maybe eric is going through an early puberty thing. Most of all try and find a good behavior psychologist(they use methods not meds) and if really needed and ok with you maybe even try a good psychiatrist for medicinal help. WE use a combo of the two, which works for us, but all our kids react differently to meds and bm. shawna, mom to nathan soon to be 10yrs w/ds, pdd, add/hd, ocd and nicholas 8yrs, eager for wrestling camp to get here, lol. Hi, i am new Hello, My name is Debbie, I am 44 y/o, I have 4 sons and 1 daughter. , 10 is my 4th son and he has D/S and I am noticing some autistic tendencies. I am struggling with his behavior, he hits me and his little sister when he cant have his way. He has no behavior problems in school and I was told his behavior is excellent. Ok so i guess it's me, im doing something wrong at home. is such a sweet little boy, but has many frustrations, and I dont know what to do anymore. Ray was just a sweet Down's little boy with ADHD until 14-1/2. I could take him everywhere and be proud of him. After that we experienced so much agitation and violence. It is really hard to experience the change from a child with Down's (by the way I love that personality so much it was my choice to adopt a Down's child when we adopted). I never dreamed we'd be where puberty, a medication reaction, several severe seizures and finally the Autism diagnosis have brought us. Guest guest
Diane, I am glad you found this group. You will find lots of information here and a great support group. I was diagnosed with Achalasia in 1976. I have been through all of the same things you are going through. I finally had surgery and that pretty much ended my problems. It is very hard to find a doctor who knows very much about Achalasia. Most regular docs can go there entire practice without seeing some one with Achalasia. Most GI's only see very few cases. I was lucky to find a doctor in Kansas City who see's lots of Achalasia patients and is well informed. I would keep asking questions if I were you. If the GI you are going to is not helping you, ask for another opinion. Most insurance's will allow that due to the rarity of Achalasia. Also, let us know the state you are in. Chances are there are people in this group who know of doctors or hospitals in your area. I am glad you found this group, I hope they are as big a support to you as they have been to me. J.C. Guest guest
Diane, Has any doctor given you a reasonable explanation for the chest pains?? Mine said that maybe if was from the trama due to the dilation and it should pass. It has been a week now and I have more extremely painful attacks that I had before this. The chest pains are awful. What do you do for them? I'm not sure but I don't think t he levsin is working and I end up taking pain killers. JC Elder <jc_elder@...> wrote: Diane,I am glad you found this group. Guest guest
I think the answer is both yes and no. It depends on so many things, but mainly helping yourself by finding out as much as you can about possible causes and treatments, and making lifestyle changes (very important). We have an older woman (mid sixties I believe) in our support group that 8 months ago was very sick, and just last week climbed a 3,000 foot mountain. She found out she has lyme, but has improved without even starting to treat the lyme (with pharmmaceuticals). I believe she is looking for a lyme expert. But what helped her was changing her diet, getting off of certain foods (especially gluten- containing foods like wheat), and doing a four-day rotation diet to allow her intestines to heal from damage caused by the gluten. So she's used a naturopathic/holistic approach, and I believe may be using an allopathic (M.D.) to treat the lyme. But her progress, just by changing her diet, has been amazing. Guest guest
mjh, I'd like to keep positive for the new member asking whether fibro gets worse with time or not-however, I am one of the one's who has just gotten worse over the years. No matter how I try to rehab myself-my muscles just get painful and stay painful unless I constantly rest (I never rebuild muscle strength no matter how I try.) Also, several treatments have been a failure for me. I'm interested in what " proper " treatments have helped your fibro-when u first got ill-how disabled did u ever-if ever get? And, how long were u sick before u tried your proper treatments to get improvement? Thanks, Gena --- foxhillers@... wrote: > THat has not been my experience. > > With proper treatment, the FMS symptoms that I > experienced are much improved. > > I get older every day, whether I want to or not.... > > mjh > " The Basil Book " > _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ > (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) > > > _Hi, I am new _ > (http://us.lrd./_ylc=X3oDMTJxODM0YW01BF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzkxNTc0BG\ dycHNwSWQDMTYwMDA2MTY0NQRtc2dJZAMxMDA1NjMEc2VjA2Rtc2cEc2xrA3 > Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTE1MTgxNzc4Mw--;_ylg=1/SIG=123n108fr/** > group//message/100563) > Posted by: " lafitness32 " _lafitness32@... _ > (mailto:lafitness32@...?Subject=Re: > Hi,%20I%20am%20new) _lafitness32 _ > (lafitness32) > Sat Jul 1, 2006 10:07 pm (PST) > One short question. I was in this boat -- but did get better. It does happen. My experience with getting my sleep apnea treated was that it made a huge, dramatic improvement in my FM. I'd recommend this investigation to *anybody* who had FM and even the slightest reason (loud snoring, for one) to think they might have apnea. It knocked about 60% of my FM in about two months' time. Another 25% went away when I found and resolved a food allergy (soy). The rest is controlled with supplements (glucosamine, MSM, and bromelian figure large here), and getting on GSH pretty much eliminated the margin that was left after all that. It did seem to start creeping back as I moved into my 40s, but correcting my female hormones licked that, too. Getting past FM has been probably the biggest, easiest part of my success story so far. It's the damned malaise that's still the worst part. Sara

Guest guest
Hi, I have been feeling really bad lately, and found all my symptoms to correspond with low test. I recently had blood work done, and also had low thyroid, which I was given a prescription. My last work also tested Test, per my request, and it is in the low range, along with the Thyroid still. I have an appointment with my Dr next Friday. I suspect he is going to give me prescriptions. I don't recall the Test numbers, but I think it was 200 something. I left my notes at work when I made the call for my results. Anyway, I am curious what he might prescribe, and if there are any generic options that are effective and not so costly that I may suggest when I see him. Any comments welcome. What about pills? Would I also need an estrogen inhibitor? Carl
Guest guest
If you testosterone levels are this low I feel your Dr. needs to find out why your low before you treat this once you start on testosterone meds it's dam hard to figure out whats the cause of this. As for treatment one of the best and lowest cost ways to treat this is a compounded cream from a compounding Pharmacy. Or doing shots if you do them your self. As for thyroid most Dr.'s will give you Synthroid a T4 only thyroid med that to me and others does not work well you need to be albe to convert the T4 into T3 most can't do this. I would ask for Armour to treat your low thyroid read this link. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ Just have your Dr. call this Pharmacy and they will make it for you and send it in the mail. http://www.collegepharmacy.com/menshealth/andropause.asp Go to Dr. 's site at www.allthingsmale.com and read TRT: A Recipe for Success and his HCG update in this are labs you would need and why.
