Thanks. In the data base section for this group is a list of doctors. You might also find a good GP and bring him the Guidelines form the AACE. They might feel comfortable treating you if they have those. Most of us find it's better to find a doctor that will listen and read, than an " Expert " . Most of the endos spend the bulk of their practice on diabetes, female issues, and thyroid. Most see very few hypogonadism patients and cookbook the treatment with their 1970s, 1980s knowledge base. The most important thing is finding a doctor who will acknowledge the impact and importance of E2. The guidelines are here: http://www.aace.com/pub/pdf/guidelines/hypogonadism.pdf

Guest guest
There's a DO in the Marina Del Rey area, named Small. He's sort of a friend of mine, so I can't see him - bad to mix business and pleasure in my mind, regrettably, but if you're in LA, and he's taking patients, I'd really recommend giving him a try. Why I recommend him: 1) He has experience with TRT. 2) He's a reader of Dr Crisler's site. 3) He uses Armour Thyroid for his patients (always a good sign a doc knows what he's doing to me). Another doc, a research endo, I've thought of seeing in LA is Theodore Friedman, MD, PHD. Check him out at www.goodhormonehealth.com Phil always recommends nco for Californians, but Monterey is a damn long ways to drive to see a doc... Whoever you go to, post back and let us know if they did you right or not. On Jan 12, 2008, at 7:05 PM, kxb9888 wrote: > I'm a 33 year old male with Hypogonadism and low DHEA. Guest guest
You should know that Dr. no from what I understand only sees people that have a mental health issues as well. My ticket in to see him (it seems) was that my HMO endo told me I was " just fine " with my low normal T, and that I was probably depressed. Prozac was my next step. I knew better from my reading online (thanks Phil especially, you keep me on track) that my T level of 300 is my REAL problem. Anyway, my first contact with Dr. no was an email and I did mention my " depression " angle. I too live in S. California...but Monterey is not really that bad a drive. My wife and I drove up in the morning, stayed the night at a great place, dined out, had a great drive by the coast. http://www.wildnatureimages.com/Monterey.htm Neil _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of kxb9888 Sent: Sunday, January 13, 2008 11:56 AM Subject: Re: Finding a Doctor in the Torrance, Ca or Long Beach... Guest guest
Sorry, I don't any of that stuff about Friedman. I spoke to his office a couple of years ago, and they said he definitely does TRT for paitents. He seems to be more an adrenal expert than anything else, though his latest book he's hawking on his site is about thyroid treatment. A glance through that should show his thoughts on Armour or Levoxl. Guest guest
Phil, understood about nco and Crisler seeing you once and then doing the rest by email/phone. For some people, though that option doesn't work for them. Maybe they can't afford even one trip to either doc (time or money wise). Maybe they just want a more personal and face to face experience. I think anyone who can spare the time and money to see Crisler or nco should make the pilgrimage, but for those who don't we should be able to find someone a bit more local in a huge place like Los Angeles County. ;-) On Jan 13, 2008, at 3:10 PM, philip georgian wrote: > The thing is you see the man once and the rest of the treatment can > be done over Email or phone. Guest guest
When you see a doctor for TRT etc, is it important to mention thyroid, adrenals and pituitary? As I may have all problems i.e. cough, secondary Adrenal Insificiany, hypothyroidism along with my sexual dysfuntion and small testicles. --- Dave <groupsdude@...> wrote: > Sorry, I don't any of that stuff about Friedman. Guest guest
Hi, I am actually considering, a one time visit, and then on the phone type plan. My problems are small testicles, never had an erection, 2% sperm working, off ratio trunk, cough, etc. I may have secondary hypothyroidism (secondary hypo) and secondary AI. This is all due to my low cortisol, etc causing my severe coughs. But in order to get my sexual organs workin and developing with HCG, T, which doctor out of the 2 (nco and Crisler ) will u suggest to be more suitable. Do they specialise in thyroid or adrenals etc? As some drs do..., but i am planning to treat my cough etc with another specialist,,,BUT, i thght it may be imporant for a dr to know about the other problems in order to get to the root of the cause of the problems. u get me? --- Dave <groupsdude@...> wrote: > Phil, understood about nco and Crisler seeing > you once and then > doing the rest by email/phone. Guest guest
No this is not true Dr. no spent hrs. on the boards at MESO saying he is rewrighting mental health in the US and the world. He has found most of the problems people have are not mental but hormones. neil <neilneil@...> wrote: You should know that Dr. no from what I understand only sees people that have a mental health issues as well. Guest guest
Small is a DO. I believe he follows Dr. 's protocols. I haven't spoken to him in a while, but last I did he was using TRT injectables, HCG, etc. Re: adrenals, he recommended some topical cream to me once to reduce cortisol levels. I'm not even sure he is still taking new patients. He has a lot of high profile celebrity patients, with offices in Marina and Beverly Hills, so I don't imagine he's cheap. Insurance should cover part of his bill regardless. He was branching into a new business the last time we spoke, so he may not even be practicing anymore, but look him up in the phone directory or something and give him a call. Another trick I learned from my thyroid support group for finding a doctor was to try calling your local pharmacies and asking if they could recommend a doctor that prescribes whatever you're looking for. I've never actually tried that, though. Some manufacturers (such as Armour) actually list doctors who prescribe their products on their websites. That may be more difficult to find with controlled substances like Testosterone. Guest guest
I think it's important to give as complete and thorough a history of your conditions as possible. With the endocrine system, so many things are intertwined - high estrogen causes testosterone deficiency, low thyroid cases adrenal fatigue, etc, etc. On Jan 13, 2008, at 6:57 PM, Manterno Salerno wrote: > When you see a doctor for TRT etc, is it important to > mention thyroid, adrenals and pituitary? > > As I may have all problems i.e. cough, secondary > Adrenal Insificiany, hypothyroidism along with my > sexual dysfuntion and small testicles. > > --- Dave <groupsdude@...> wrote: > >> Sorry, I don't any of that stuff about Friedman. Guest guest
I see a urologist in Newport Beach, Auerbach. I'm 60 with low T's. He's been treating me for Hypogonadism/BPH. Guest guest
Well, you're certainly not alone in dealing with Endo's or do do's, as I'd like to call them. I saw two of them and they were too much in love with themselves. I got no help from them either. Finding a good doctor is going to be a real challenge. This may seem the long way around the barn but I found my doctor through an independant compounding pharmacist. I asked him who he works with for patients with hypogonadism. An independant pharmacist might be able to steer you in a good direction. Jaek Muran <plkaldera@...> wrote: I see a urologist in Newport Beach, Auerbach. I'm 60 with low T's. Guest guest
That Doctor sounds like a lunatic. Endo's are supposed to be hormone specialists but if I understand the comments from this forum we seem to have gotten the least help from them. You have to wonder why that is? I suggested an independant compounding pharmacist because these guys are independant and they are more personable than the pharmacist working at Wal-Mart. They know their customers better and they know the doctors writing the prescriptions they are offering. Hopefully one of them can point you in the right direction. kxb9888 <kxb9888@...> wrote: --I saw an Endo a while back and my testosterone levels were terrible. An independant pharmacist might be able to steer you in a good direction. > > Jaek Muran <plkaldera@...> wrote: I see a urologist in Newport Beach, Auerbach. Guest guest
I wonder if it was actually a pass / fail course or just a lecture? No, but for the other fella, and I've mentioned this a number of times because it's important, my first doctor blamed his failures in therapy on me and told me to go see a shrink. What did it for me was when I would ask him about any criticisms in using gels and patches (I already knew the answers to my questions prior to asking him). He was evasive and wouldn't respond to the question. That was a red flag. And when I suggested checking my estrogen (E2) level he looked at me as if I were not to have any at all. I left his office, never to return, realizing that this man was ill equipped to treat this condition. Beforehand I had a generic attitude about doctors and it's difficult for the layman to judge which one is a good one and which isn't. But keep plugging away and if the forum can help any then all the better. philip georgian <pmgamer18@...> wrote: I don't know if this is true but I heard Endo's get a 4 hr. class on hormones. Especially for my age and the Doc told me " I'm not comfortable giving you testosterone because it would require a high dose " . I was very upset when he said that. He also told me " as long as you have a little testosterone you should feel and function normally " . The Doc also pointed out that it doesn't matter if your total testosterone is 200 or 1000, I should feel and function properly and that it is all in my head. Despite my anger, I was civilized and left the moron's office. I'll look into the compounding pharmacy approach.
