Can split a single dose vial of 200mg/ml into 2 - 100mg (1/2cc) injections?

Hi, this is my first post. I've recently switched from transdermal to IM

testosterone(almost 2 months ago). My Endo told me to use 200mg every 10 days,

which seems a bit high to me. When I got my meds in the mail they were single

dose vials of 200mg/ml and a 3 months supply. Can I safely use half of the

solution every 7-days and not catch some infection? I noticed that the solution

is the same for the 10mL multi-dose vial and the single dose vial, except for

the concentration which is 100mg/mL for the 10ml vial.

Thanks to all,

Johann

Sure, in my opinion from 37 years of self injecting, you can do anything you

want to do.

I inject one half of one CC about every two weeks nowadays, and I use the same

needle twice. Never had an infection in all these years.

Thanks, Norton. I'll do my next shot at a 1/2 cc.

Hi,

sure, when you snap of the top of the amp just have 2 sterile syringes ready and

draw up half a cc in each.

you don't even have to refrigerate.

Thanks for the reply jbbooks, but these are vials not amps, i don't snap the top

off, it has a rubber stopper thing I pass a needle through. Are you telling me

you've drawn two shots into steril syringes and stored one like that? If you can

do that I shouldn't have any problems with just leaving half in the vial for my

second shot 7 days after the first.

Hi,

sure...

I've just never seen test in 1ml multidose vials

the hcg in the little vials IS neat though. :-}

I get 10ml vials myself and draw up my dose every week.

Personally I'd try not to use a needle twice. Needles are cheap.

I saw that too about using twice! If you were to get an infection it may

be a deep one. That might be nasty. I've got enough problems without that!

You can do that but it is unnecessary. The top rubber stopper is a septum. It

is designed for multi-dose use. Draw out what you need for the first shot and

leave the rest in the vial. It's fine. After 7 days, draw up your next dose in

another sterile syringe. Swab the top with alcohol each time before drawing up

your dose.

Hi,

yea leaving it in the vial shouldn't be any problem at all.

I've been getting 10ml multidose vials for years and that's what you do.

and that's not me that re-uses needles... I use a brand new sterile syringe and

needle every time, I'm also one of the folks that uses a -new- sharp point to

stick ME with... that it to say I stick the vial and draw up, then switch to a

NEW needle to stick -me-... yea yea I know you don't HAVE to, they don't do it

at the doc's, but it IS a little sharper that way.

like you say " needles are cheap " ...

Most vials are 10 or 20 ml and are used multiple times. As long as you

are using a new needle on each draw from the vial there's virtually no

risk of contamination or infection.

Also, the oil is thick. Most use a " blunt " or an size 18 needle to

draw and then switch to something like a 23 or 25 (thinner needle) for

the injection.

Johann, most of the other guys are spot in their answers. When you are ready to

give your shot drip some alcohol onto the top of your vial and let it rest for

at least 3 minutes wet because alcohol needs to be wet at least 3 minutes to

disinfect. While you are letting the vial disinfect put a large needle like an

18g or 21g on your syringe and without uncapping draw the same amount of air

into the syringe as the amount of solution your are drawing out of the vial.

This is to equalize the pressure in the vial to make it easier to draw the

testosterone into the syringe. Now shake the excess alcohol off the top of the

vial, uncap the vial, stick the needle in through the rubber top and push the

air into the vial. Then flip the vial and needle upside down so the rubber vial

stopper is towards the ground and the syringe is needle up towards the ceiling.

Draw back on the syringe until the needed solution is in the syringe. Recap the

syringe and put it aside for now.

It is best to do this after your shower when you are most relaxed and your skin

is clean as possible. Now take whatever you are using to disinfect your skin and

swab the area with it. The same time rule about the vial applies to your skin.

You may need to swab the skin a couple of times to ensure the alcohol stays wet

for long enough. I personally use a product called technicare for on skin

disinfection that disinfects in 30 seconds, has a residual protection, doesn't

contain antibiotics, works well and is very safe. However if you stick with

alcohol then make sure once the three minutes is over that it is fully dry or it

will sting when you inject and the alcohol will interfere with healing tissue.

You can use anything from a 31g to 18g to inject but the higher the gauge the

less painful and less trauma to the muscles. If you don't have much fat over the

muscle you can use as short as 5/8 of an inch to 1.5 inches in length if you are

seriously obese. Whatever needle size you are using to inject switch the needle,

don't use the same needle to inject as you do to draw. It dulls the needle,

increases the likelihood of needle breakage and cross contaminates your shot. It

might be fine but it isn't wise and the needles are cheap.

Once you are ready to inject keep the syringe in your hand to until the oil has

warmed up to body temperature and is easier to inject. If you leave a small air

bubble in the syringe by the plunger when you inject it will help prevent

seepage after the shot and ensure all the fluid is pushed out of the syringe.

Onnce you are ready to inject, pull the skin sideways and slightly pinch the

area you are going to stab. Pulling the skin make the injection not line up when

you release the skin after the shot limiting the amount of leakage and pinching

the skin make the surface harder making it easier to push the needle tip in.

Slowly and steadily push the needle in until you are in the muscle. Draw back on

the plunger and make sure no blood appears in the hub of the needle. If it does

withdraw, switch needles and try again. If there is no blood then slowly push

the testosterone in. Now withdraw the syringe and use you finger to put pressure

on the injection site. Keep pressure for a minute or two and dispose of the

needles in your sharps bin.

Congradulation you have now given your testosterone shot. You are going to learn

that everyone has their own methods of giving shots and with time you will

develop your own style of injecting. I have given you a step by step explanation

of all the points that are important to giving IM shots. Some are going to say

that you don't need to do everything I have said. While it is your choice doing

all these steps will help keep yourself as safe as possible. Choose to

comprimise and you maybe fine but you open yourself up to things not being

perfect. Don't worry too much as time goes on you will find your comfortable

level of care and risk. Good luck and welcome to the injectors club. I used to a

member before I got pellets and kissed goodbye to the weekly testosterone

injections. Oh and it perfectly alright to take fluid from the vial multiple

times as long as you use a new needle for each stab and clean the vial each

time.
