Low adrenals and thyroid also causes low IGF-1.

elevated insulin

My IGF-1 test showed a result of 131 with no reference range given. My endo was

not concerned about it. My fasting insulin level came in at undetectible. My

endo was also not concerned about this. My fasting glucose was 85, right in the

normal range. My endo just says I am very insulin sensitive.

I really don't know what to think of it.

Often, one lab facility may have a different reference range for testosterone or

IGF-1 than another. It is noteworthy that you are below the reference range for

your age.

Possible hormonal causes include

-Low testosterone

-Too little estradiol

-Low Human Growth Hormone & /or Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone

(quite possible if there is a pituitary issue)

-Low insulin

-low thyroid hormones

etc.

Low insulin often occurs in athletes who are insulin sensitive. They often test

below 2 uiu/mL. I wonder if it is frequent for younger individuals, who are

more insulin sensitive. Other cases where low insulin might factor into the

diagnosis include being overweight (where insulin contributed to it but the

pancreas was eventually overtaxed), being underweight & /or having diabetic

symptoms (constant thirst, high blood glucose, constant need to urinate, etc.).

The lack of reference range for IGF-1 is troublesome. Labcorp, for instance,

would count that as a " normal " result for anyone over 20.

Athletes often have very low insulin levels, below 2 uiu/mL. What was the floor

for the insulin reference range, or was no reference range given?

I should have Labcorp's ranges the first time around-

20 year old: 127-424 ng/mL

21-25 : 116-358 ng/mL

26-30 : 117-329 ng/mL

......and so forth, with IGF-1 continually decreasing.

Well mine is 147 range for my age range is 75 to 228 ng/ml Dr. says I

should be 100 points higher. Your below normal this is not good but the first

thing to take a hit when hormones are off is Growth Hormone mine were lower then

this. My heart Dr. feels I needed Heart Bypass sugary because my GH levels were

low for so long and he even feels I need to be on HGH.

Normally due to abnormal diet regulation for so long this can cause alteration

in insulin signaling which can make people hyperinsulin sensitive. Again

dietary imbalances are highly probably. Despite even if one eats healthy they

may still have imbalances. People healthy consciouness are noted for this.

My fasting insulin level was less than 2 in a range of 6-27. I am 45 years old,

6'3 " and 164 lbs, so I am not over weight.
