Guest guest
I am interested. I just did my first injection with the same size needle. Or my wife did it. What size is recommended to be on the safe side? Guest guest
Dave, I have been using the same size needle for a couple years and no problem. Doing it myself right in the butt. Actually, it hurt more when my wife did it vs when I do it myself. Hmmmm. Norsworthy <norsworthy_david@...> wrote: I just did my first injection with a 1 1/2 " 22 GA needle. It was a piece of cake. Guest guest
I would suggest you consider a smaller needle. Depending on your fat content and the volume of T you inject - many of us who use more frequent shots (every 7 days or 2 times every 7 days) have gone to 25g needles and shorter - like 5/8 " . These are relatively painless and do just as well. If however you are overweight, you may need to use a longer needle to get to the muscle. I rotate using both thighs and both butt cheeks. I rotate to the next one on each shot. For me the left butt cheek is the hardest but with a little practice - its no problem. Guest guest
Hi, I think you'll find a lot of people here use a smaller needle... 25g seems the most common... only downside is it takes longer to fill the syringe... and many inject in the thigh instead of the butt (just easier to reach) and use 1 " needles. I'm a 25g 1 " needle guy myself. though I started with 1.5 " ... you just don't have as much flesh on your leg as in your glute... > I just did my first injection with a 1 1/2 " 22 GA needle. Guest guest
If you give yourself the shot in the butt, how do you pull back on the plunger to check for blood? Or is that even necessary. Guest guest
I do it in front of a mirror - I insert the needle with my right hand, then hold the base of the needle with my left and pull the plunger back with my right - never have seen blood in the butt cheek. Doing the left side is more of a challenge - there I actually stab with my left and reverse everything. Guest guest
I use a 1.5 inch needle, stick straight into my mid-thigh, and have never worried about hitting a blood vessel. I've never had a problem and it's relatively painless - but should I be worried about hitting a blood vessel? I'm a bit scared to " pull back " before I inject - it seems like you'd be sucking SOMETHING in, if not blood... Also, why do you guys inject in the buttocks? Is it because it hurts less, or some other reason? It seems like it'd be more difficult to hit muscle there since there is so much more fat. I'm a skinny, guy, too - am I overdoing it by using a 1.5 inch needle in my thigh? Guest guest
Hey Ben - I am relatively thin also 5'8 " and 160#. I inject in the butt for 2 reasons. One it allows for more locations so your rotation is longer allowing the area to heal and two, it is much less painful for me. I have bled from my thighs after a stick several times but very seldom from the butt. Yes you need to test for vein puncture when you shoot with any size needle. I use a 25 g and 5/8th inch long needle with little to no pain or problems. Guest guest
I saw an air bubble begin to form as an indication I didn't hit a vein. I only drew back a little. Guest guest
This is normal - you are essentially drawing a vacuum on the syringe which will result in the formation of the gases in the solution. Once you release the vacuum, the bubbles should go away. The only thing you have to worry about is if you see blood come into the syringe - you do not want to inject the oil based testosterone directly into you circulatory system. It won't kill you but you will exhaust your T supply very quickly. Arkansas Norsworthy <norsworthy_david@...> wrote: I saw an air bubble begin to form as an indication I didn't hit a vein. Guest guest
Besides being a nice large chunk of muscle to inject into, isn't one of the reasons the butt is used is because there are no veins to inject into? Guest guest
How do you know you are in muscle though? What happens if you just inject into just...fat? I mean, I'm VERY skinny but my butt is probably the place on my body with the most fat. Guest guest
Guess I just figure with a 1 1/2 inch needle it's in a muscle. Anyone doing T injections sub q? The directions on the bottle say im but my doctor does his subq and feels this slows the conversion to E. Anyone haive info on this? Guest guest
Hi a lot of men have posted this about doing shots in to the ground. Dr. Shippen " The Testosterone Syndrome " was down on shots now he dose his every 3 days shooting 70mgs div. in half doing 35mgs on one side of his belly and the other 35mgs on the other side each 3rd. day. He feels this keeps him more leveled and it is keeping the E2 down. Here is a copy of a study. ======================================================= STABLE TESTOSTERONE LEVELS ACHIEVED WITH SUBCUTANEOUS TESTOSTERONE INJECTIONS M.B. Greenspan, C.M. Chang Division of Urology, Department of Surgery, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada Objectives: The preferred technique of androgen replacement has been intramuscular (IM) testosterone, but wide variations in testosterone levels are often seen. Subcutaneous (SC) testosterone injection is a novel approach; however, its physiological effects are unclear. We therefore investigated the sustainability of stable testosterone levels using SC therapy. Patients and methods: Between May and September 2005, we conducted a small pilot study involving 10 male patients with symptomatic late-onset hypogonadism. Every patient had been stable on TE 200 mg IM for 41 year. Patients were instructed to self-inject with testosterone enanthate (TE) 100 mg SC (DELATESTRYL 200 mg/cc, Theramed Corp, Canada) into the anterior abdomen once weekly. Some patients were down-titrated to 50 mg based on their total testosterone (T) at 4 weeks. Informed consent was obtained as SC testosterone administration is not officially approved by Health Canada. T levels were measured before and 24 hours after injection during weeks 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 96 hours after injection in week 6 and 8. At week 12, PSA, CBC, and T levels were measured however; the week 12 data are still being collected. Results: Prior to initiation of SC therapy, T was 19.14+3.48 nmol/l, hemoglobin 15.8+1.3 g/dl, hematocrit 0.47+0.02, and PSA 1.05+0.65 ng/ml. During the first 4 weeks, there was a steady increase in pre-injection T from 19.14+3.48 to 23.89+9.15 nmol/l (p¼0.1). However, after 8 weeks the post-injection T (25.77+7.67 nmol/l) remained similar to that of week 1 (27.46+12.91 nmol/l). Patients tolerated this therapy with no adverse effects. Conclusions: A once-week SC injection of 50–100 mg of TE appears to achieve sustainable and stable levels of physiological T. This technique offers fewer physician visits and the use of smaller quantity of medication, thus lower costs. However, the long term clinical and physiological effects of this therapy need further evaluation. Brown <kidsxx5@...> wrote: Guess I just figure with a 1 1/2 inch needle it's in a muscle.
