I need to do something here, need to lose 50 lbs, all my numbers would be better then.... thanks, Jim From: brianee93@... I was in the hospital for pancreatis about 2 years ago with my triglycerides above 3000. In May of this year I started the diet and have been on HRT since February. In May my total cholesterol was 305 and my triglycerides were 2000. Last weeks results are a total of 155 and my triglycerides were 378. My HDL is a little low at 36 but is up from 28.(Started exercising again) I have a little work on the the tri's but I was very surprised. Guest guest
Diet does not work alone - you need to also exercise - I workout at a gym - first do cardio for between 30 - 40 minutes and when at home I watch what I eat. Guest guest
i understand you must exercise. When doing Low carb, what do you do for fiber? I have had trouble with constipation before when i have tried the low carb approach. Jim From: old_retired_big_guy@... Guest guest
Yep! I do fast paced walks at least 5 times a week and lift weights 3 times a week. Only the big lifts that work multiple muscles. The weight lifting will keep your metabolism up. Cardio is good for your heart but doesn't drop the pounds nearly as good as moving some heavy iron. Guest guest
I do a modified low carb diet. It doesn't really following any of the books. I basically just try not to eat many carbs and track it everyday in a software program I use called Protrack. This is very good for tracking workouts too. The key is to try to stay away from processed meats as much as possible and eat a lot of leafy vegetables for vitamins, minerals, and fiber. The suggestion my doctor gave for vegetables is 1 pound for every 50lbs. of body weight. He then said you probably can't do this. That is were juicing comes in. I have an Omega juicer and every morning I juice about 2-3lbs. of vegetables. This juicer is very good on green vegetables but it does leave quite a bit of pulp. I am happy it leaves the pulp because this is fiber. Sometimes I even add some pulp back in before I chug it. For low carb you need to eat mainly above ground vegetables(no carrots, beets, etc.). I throw in tomato, celery, hot pepper, collard greens, parsley, ginger root, garlic, lime, red bell pepper, and mustard greens. I sometimes do bok choy, and cilantro. Then for lunch and dinner I make sure I get a lot of leafy vegetables for the fiber. For lunch I usually have a romaine and spinach salad and some meat. For dinner I have a meat and another salad or steamed broccoli and cauliflower(good for E2 too). Guest guest
Hi , Sorry to hear you had to be hospitalized for your triglyceride problem. You should know Dr. (that blog link I posted earlier) works with people that have this problem. Using VERY high dose fish oil and niacin he is able to bring it down from levels like you had down to about 60. My triglycerides were not that high, around 200, but they now are always around 60. He likes his patients to have lipids of 60-60-60-60 (LDL, HDL, TRI, and vitamin D). Additionally he tests for something else called LP(a), if that is under control you are good to go! Guest guest
I am definitely going to check into Dr. ' site. I started a pretty high dose of fish oil about 3 months ago when my total was 305. I take 1 tablespoon of Carlson cod liver and (4) 1300mg capsules(another brand) a day. I also take 3000mg of niacin split up 3x a day. plus about 3600IU of vitamin D. My LDL is 43 but my HDL is 36. I need to keep plugging at my trig. and HDL. I got in for a stress test and new blood work in about 3 months. With this diet, supplements, and workouts I have high hopes for good numbers. I have always had problems. When I was in high school playing football my cholesterol was still 220 but my trigs and HDL were good. Everything gradually got worse until the pancreatis in 9/06. I am convinced it was all the carbs and lack of good fats. Re: New Lipids Labs Hi , Sorry to hear you had to be hospitalized for your triglyceride problem.
