Guest guest
First, stop blaming yourself. You did and are still doing the best you can. Most of us have been lead astray by doctors. Second, my daughter got in the band at 10-1/2 months and we have seen results in the 5 weeks she has been it in. You still have some time, but yes you want to get your daughter in a band quickly. Some neurologist don't see the benefit of bands, but I can promise you that there are tons of parents here that can tell you that they do work. was Dx with tort/plagio at 13 weeks. We did repositioning but at 5 month of age her plagio stopped improving. In the last 5 weeks that she has been in the band we have seen great results. I don't know if we will get 100% correction. 's ears of off but I can tell you that I know the Band works. It is safe. You can find info on that at http://www.cranialtech.com Where do you live? Maybe someone knows a Band friendly Doctor around you. Here is the web address for cranial tech they do the DOC Bands. http://www.cranialtech.com/ClinicLocations/clinics.html didn't use a TOT collar but others on the Tort BB have. Here is the address. Torticolliskids/ doesn't mind her Band at all. Most children adjust to the band right away, even the ones who hate hats don't mind the Band. It has even protected her the last few weeks now that she is trying to walk. Your Daughter will thank you later in life that you did every thing you could to help her. Don't worry Band Kids are not emotionally effected by the band. Well I take that back. I think that having a rounder head does emotionally effect them, so It would be a positive effect. It is just one more way we show them we love them.. I like to compare it to braces for the teeth. Guest guest
HI Sharleen & welcome to our group: I'm sorry, I've just got a quick second (wrestling with my daughter to get to bed!), but I wanted to tell you my daughter didn't begin her DOCband treatment til she was 11.5 mos old. She had severe plagio to start with, she wore one band for 4.5 mos & rec'd 50-60% correction, which we're thrilled with. She never minded her band one bit, wore it 23 hrs a day no problems at all, slept fine, ate fine, etc.etc.etc.. Please dont beat yourself up over this! If you do decide to band her, she still has time to receive good correction. Good luck, please keep us posted. Guest guest
Sharleen- Welcome to the group! I only have a brief moment to respond, but wanted to do it tonight rather than wait until the morning! Check out post #56407. This is 's daughter. She got her first DOC Band at 11 months. These is a picture from before her first fitting and then after her second band. She has seen great progress! It is rare to hear babies not tolerating the DOC Bands. Guest guest
Hi Sharleen and welcome to the group. I have never heard of a butterfly pillow. It sounds like it would work great. Don't worry, you did think that the doctors were right, all of us have said the same thing. We were told something by a doctor. My son still wore his helmet after he was a year old, it was more difficult for us to try and keep it on him. He was really good at getting it to come off. Please keep us posted. Best wishes, Heidi, mom to Jeffry, local helmet grad, MN please help!!!!! My daughter is now a year old and she was diagnosed at 6 months with having torticolis and from that scoliosis and plagiocephaly. The first thing is that we are having still a hard time with the fact that the doctors took so long to realize. We saw somethings but we never heard of torticolis and since this is our first child we didn't know there was anything wrong with her. Then after finding out we were encouraged to see a neurologist who, did do the x-rays and mri right away and found no neurological problem with her but only encouraged us to do physical therapy with her and really did not offering any other solutions for the plagiocephaly. We had questioned him about wearing a helmet to help with that and he reported that there was no clear evidence that they work(at least no scientific test)and that he thought they could do more damage by putting pressure on the other side. We also complained to both peditrician and neurologist that she is so insistant with positioning her head to the left side while she sleeps that her head was going to get worse. No one told me that there is a pillow out there called a butterfly pillow that helps with that. Does anyone know if that works? I want to kick my self for not doing more research, but we trusted the doctors. Now we just happened to go see an orthopedist for a unrelated problem and she was so concerned for the toricolis and the plagiocephaly and especially of the assymmetricalness of her face that she wants her to wear the DOC band and a T.O.T collar. I have now read that the results are pretty good with younger children, but she is now 12 months. Can anyone please let us know if they had used these with their children at a later age than most do and how did they handle having to wear it for 23 hours of the day? We are very desperate now and want to do the right thing for her but don't want to tramatize her too much. Guest guest
My Jenna wasn't classified as tort but she did have a tilt to the left. She was born with a flat spot but wasn't mentioned by the doctor until 6 months. By the time we saw the specialist and got her STARband she was 9 months. She wore it for 12 weeks and received 80% correction. Older babies can get great correction! She has rounded since graduation and may be up to 85% correction. Jenna didn't mind the helmet from the time we put it on her head. She adjusted to 23 hours quickly. It was not tramuatizing at all. After a few days she would be upset when it was off. You sound like a wonderful mom doing all the right things! Im sure you will here from other members whose baby's started at a older age. Angie and Jenna please help!!!!! Guest guest
Sharleen, Hello and welcome! Good news - it's not too late!! While it is true that 12 months is not the " ideal " age to begin it is certainly not too late. I see you have heard from Debbie and whose babies started " late " and still received good correction. My daughter started at 9 months and wore her helmet until 15 1/2 months and received very good correction. You'll want to get the process started right away. It's good that you have already had x-rays and an MRI to rule out craniosynostosis. Now you just need the specialist or your ped to write an RX for the band right away. Did you say that your daughter is in PT for the tort? I've heard of the butterfly pillow you mentioned and I believe that at least a few members of this group have used that product. Sorry, I don't have any personal experience with it. As far as the band goes - it won't be traumatic for your daughter at all! Most babies adjust right away and don't mind it in the least. Others take a couple of days or, worst case scenario, a couple of weeks. My daughter never seemed to notice that she was wearing a helmet on her head - she certainly didn't care about it! It didn't effect her sleeping, eating, walking, etc, etc. It's a really great non-invasive method for treating plagio. Hang in there and stick with us. Keep us posted on what's going on and feel free to ask anything - we're here to help!! Guest guest
Please help!!!! I have had very minor gallbladder symptoms for the last 10 years (I'm 24). I did a liver flush (Hulda method) 3 months ago without any problems. I did another liver flush yesterday and now I'm experiencing severe pain - upper right quadrant, nausea, indigestion, bloating, etc. I haven't thrown up yet but I'm close. What do I do? Has anyone had this happen to them? Should I do another flush right away to get the stone out, if one got stuck in the common duct? Is this an emergency? Does this happen on a regular basis to you folks - how bad off am I? If I do need surgery, does anyone know of a specialty institute or hospital that is an expert in gall bladder treatments? Also - what alternative therapies work? WHAT SHOULD I DO? PLEASE HELP!!! : (
