Guest guest
I found this on the web - it implys that those of us with ovidrel for HCG - the 0.5 cc syringe with 250 micrograms is equivalent to 6500 iu of the urine based HCG. So if you dilute the syringe with 10 cc of water, this is only 650 iu per cc or mil. Arkansas From: <androlog@...> Date: Wed Sep 24 2008 - 07:00:12 CDT Androlog Mail Colleagues A number of my severely hypogonadal male patients are having trouble finding HCG (profasi, pregnyl) in the local pharmacies in my area (Indiana) even pharmacies that cater to the IVF trade. They are told it is on 'national backorder' or otherwise in short supply. An alternative is Ovidrel a recombinant HCG product made by Serono. The original urinary HCG comes in international units and Ovidrel is dosed in micrograms. I am told by the Serono rep that the 250 mcg Ovidrel pen (0.5cc) is equivalent to 6500 IU of urinary HCG. Given this conversion factor, 50mcg of Ovidrel is roughly equal to 1500 IU urinary HCG and therefore many of my patient will be using only about 0.1cc of the Ovidrel. I plan to have my patients inject the Ovidrel pen into an empty sterile multi dose vial and then redraw the amount needed out of this vial with a tuberculin syringe for their injection. My questions are 1. For those that have converted men from urinary HCG to Ovidrel is the conversion factor above accurate and have they found the two products biologically equivalent in this clinical setting? 2. Any better ideas for patients on how to use small quantities of the ovidrel given the limitation of the 0.5cc/250mcg pens. 3. Has anyone studied or tried Luveris, recombinant luteinizing hormone made by Serono, for severely hypogonadal men instead of an HCG product? thanks for your help T , MD sthompson@... From: rmpalp <motor815@...> Subject: Re: Bacteriostatic Water Date: Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 9:07 PM I actually mix mine with 20 ml Bac Water. That way, with a 5000iu vial of HCG, I get the dose I want of 250iu per 1cc injection. I haven't found anything less than 30 ml Bac Water vials, though. I just draw off 10 ml to start off with. I got mine from: http://www.cheapvit amins.com/ Product/Bacterio static-Water- 30-ml.aspx > > Those of you that mix your HCG and have to have a 10 ml vial of bacteriostatic water - where do you get it? > > Thanks Arkansas >
Guest guest
I just started using Ovidrel since I'm having trouble finding Novarel. I mixed the Ovidrel with 5ml of sterile water as instructed here and by my physician and have now had two injections of .5 cc/ml each and noticed that this stuff burns a lot going in. It really took me by surprise. I guess I was expecting it to be comparable to the Novarel that I barely felt at all. I can certainly deal with the different, yet annoying sensation, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this. The difference, for me at least, is like night and day.
