You're right about the estrogen and BC pills. It makes a woman 4 times

higher of getting gallstones. I had a complete hyst. in 1990, and after that

time, I took HRT until 1997. I took myself off of it after reading Dr. Lee's

book. One thing, though, I wore the patch, which is not quite as bad as

taking the pills. But it's still not good. The pills pass through the

liver.

I refer many people to this site to help them save their gall

bladders. You all have been so helpful and you give so many people

hope. I wish more doctors would listen to your advice.

It seems as if the medical profession is not even looking into WHY

stones form because they have their magic bullet of a cure -

surgery. Something is seriously wrong with the way we are living if

MILLIONS of people have their gall bladders removed each year. I, as

I'm sure many of you do, still want to know WHY stones occur.

It is no secret that diet and lifestyle play a big role in stone

formation. However, we also need to wake people up about the the

hormone link to gall stones. I have spoken to many women with gall

stones who were either on birth control pills or hormone replacement

therapy, and they did not know about the hormone/stone connection.

Estrogen can raise the cholesterol in the bile, causing it to

crystallize and form stones. Estrogen also slows down gall bladder

contrations, which interferes with emptying and causes bile to back

up. DOCTORS RARELY TELL WOMEN ABOUT THIS. With so many women on bc

pills and HRT, it is no wonder gall stones have become an epidemic

among females.

I developed stones after being on bc pills for about a year. After

the gall stone diagnoses, the docs immediately took me off bc pills.

They never mentioned that they could cause gall stones beforehand.

After having attacks for 5 years, I had emergency surgery when stones

got caught in my bile duct. Although I had the surgery, I would like

to do everything possible to prevent others from going through it.

Please, please, please - if you are on hormone meds - please consider

getting off them. They are " no friend " to the gall bladder. If you

know women with stones, please spread the word to them. Most docs

don't tell women about this until AFTER the gall bladder attacks

begin. It is scary how many times I have asked women with stones if

they were on hormone meds and they say " yes " , but never knew about

the risks. PLEASE let's spread the word and help prevent this from

continuing. Thanks for your continued support and good luck to all.

Susie, thanks for your comments. Which book by Dr. Lee? I'd be

interested in reading it. Thanks...Randi
