Guest guest
Note: the second test was done at 8:30AM (not PM which was a typo) - they say T is highest in the morning. Can anyone please help explain my results? Guest guest
Your test results are similar to mine. I found (Via Google) that high E2, low SHBG are counter the norm and indicate hypothyroidism as does your high TSH. Please get that checked - T4, free T4, T3, free T3. High triglycerides are indicative of too many simple carbs and sugars. Fat in your blood does NOT come from dietary sources - your body converts excess blood sugar into fats for storage. For example, my wife baked a cake - I usually avoid cakes, but this was my favourite and I had two big pieces - the night before my blood test. The test result showed triglycerides at 850+/. My doctor freaked. I told him it was my bad - the cake. So we redid the test - 220. I now minimize carbs, and avoid the refined ones totally. Hope this helps.. Guest guest
Hey, Tom. Your summary seems about right, as did the other poster's comment about potential hypothyroidism in light of your estradiol & SHBG results. I tried converting the estradiol reference range into one I'm familiar with (10-30 pg/mL), but it still doesn't seem right. Check here (http://www.lef.org/protocols/appendix/blood_testing_01.htm) & here (http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2002/nov2002_awsi_01.html) . (Many docs don't pay much attention to Estradiol, which can be very problematic above 30 or 35 pg/mL as your chance for stroke doubles.) In any event, your number was above the reference range for a man, so this is worth looking into. SHBG & estradiol are affected by liver activity. Do you also have results for your liver enzymes (SGT, ALT, etc.)? However, body fat also produces aromatase, which converts testosterone to estradiol. Are you overweight? I ask this in light of the possibility that your thyroid is underactive (as suggested by your pituitary's " assessment " via TSH). I hope your doc helps you get the treatment you need. Otherwise, consider seeing Dr. Crisler or check the group's database. You might find an excellent doc near you. Happy New Year. ~Xian > > > > > > Hi Guys, I finally found 2 doctors that would test most of the > things I > > wanted to, but not all unfortunately. Guest guest
Thanks Xian and Ihor, I appreciate it. I am actually fairly slim and keep fit with soccer 2 times a week. I did have some fat on my belly but just got rid of it a few months ago. I rarely eat fat at all really. I can understand that if I ate some fat before the test that it may show up, but it is hard to believe that even after fasting for 10 hours that the serum sample looked slightly fatty. There definitely is an issue there for sure but in some strange way I am glad I am getting some results to examine cause I can then find a way to fix it hopefully. I do take Luvox which is an SSRI anti-depressant, but take a low dose of it. I did have side effects from it before, but when I lowered it down I was OK mostly, but have been taking it for several years everyday so maybe changes have been slowly accumulating such as lowering my T or DHEAS...etc. and maybe my liver is tired from it and not filtering out the fat enough. One thing that is confusing, is the ranges that these regular doctors (non-specialists) use. Most of the doctors I saw looked at the results and said I am in the normal range and said " see you later " but their ranges are either way too broad or just not updated for this specific science yet. How they say " goodbye when I stll have issues " oh well, thanks that I have you guys. We got each others backs and I'm sure in time I will have this issue fixed up and feeling good, just can't be soon enough. I have one doctor that is more serious about this and he actually sent me for some more tests for DHEAS to confirm if it is in fact that low(even by their standards) plus all the differnt types of fat and a Cortisol test. I will have those in a about 3 days. I will look at the documents on this site to get the more applicable ranges for these tests so I can see this in my mind more clearly. I totally agree with your Xian, that once some of these doctors start to have issues in this way, they will start to take these types of things more seriously. I am just 40 years old and slim and in good shape and should have many more good years ahead of me if I can fix these issues for sure. I still got to get married too, so need my mojo and energy back. Thanks guys, I have some studying to do for sure. Tom > > > > > > > > > Hi Guys, I finally found 2 doctors that would test most of the > > things I > > > wanted to, but not all unfortunately. Guest guest
Hi Xian, I made one typo. It is true my Estridiol is 122ug/L but the range is <220 (not <22) so my Estradiol would be low right? Or is it still considered too high? I am having trouble converting ug/L to pg/mL. I will get more tests done as mentioned. Thanks Bud! Tom > > > > > > > > > Hi Guys, I finally found 2 doctors that would test most of the > > things I > > > wanted to, but not all unfortunately. Guest guest
Converting ug/l to pg/ml ug = micro gram or one millionth of a gram pg - picogram or one millionth of a microgram Therefore 1 ug =1,000,000 pg ml = milliliters or one thousandth of a liter. conversely 1 L = 1000 ml. putting it all together 122 ug/l = 122 1000000pg/1000ml = 122,000 pg/ml - a tad high. I think that there is some error either in my conversion or in the data. According to Phil, the Quest stradiol test is code #30289X. Should get it redone....
