Guest guest
Dear FORUM, Re: /message/10389 The GSACS took the following action on receipt of telephonic information on Saturday morning from representatives of network of people living with HIV/AIDS(GSNP+) at Jamnagar about a reported episode of discrimination against a pregnant HIV +ve woman at Guro Gobind hospital affiliated with MP Shah medical College, Jamnagar. She had come for an MTP in the morning of 20th June at the PP unit and some staff had allegedly pasted sticker of " HIV Sero +ve " on her forehead which disclosed her identity against her wish in an embarrassing manner. The network of people living with HIV/AIDS threatened to sit on hunger strike and the news was flashed on media immediately. The matter was discussed amongst the senior technical officers of the GSA CS and then communicated to the Medical Superintendent of the GG hospital Dr Gupta within 2 hours of the incident and the following actions have been taken by MS,GG hospital: The staff nurse Ms.Prafulla Parmar on duty has been asked to proceed on leave till further notice by MS. Dr Nalini Anand Associate Professor,Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Dr Dipti Doshi Medical Officer, PP Unit have also been asked to proceed on leave till further notice by MS. An enquiry committee, including Additional Medical Superintendent, Head of Department, TB and Chest Diseases, Matron, IRCS official, and a representative of network of people living with HIV/AIDS (GSNP+) has been formed which will enquire the matter within three days and submit report to the concerned teaching hospital and the GSACS. Such unforunate incidents should be totally unacceptable to all anywhere. Let us strengthen our efforts to ensure proper communication, advocacy and social mobilization to avert them. Definitely we all have to make much more efforts in a dedicated manner. Rajesh Gopal Dr. Rajesh Gopal e-mail: <dr_rajeshg@...>
Guest guest
Dear FORUM, Re: /message/10389 I appreciate the transfer of medical staff from Jamnagar for so called stigma! I think this is not the remedial actions. Medicos and paramedical staff are to be trained and hammered constantly on the subject The explanation by superintendent that the tag was for surgical unit that also shows ignorance as that means that Jamnagar medical college is not following universal precautions. Dr.Rajesh Gopal and GSACS will have to undergo the case study and find out the ultimate outcome. Education is the answer Niloo vaishnav e-mail: <niloov@...>
