Guest guest
Have been lurking here for a while and finally decided to post. This is my first post after reading some useful general information with a question specific to my condition. I am interested in improving my fertility and have been diagnosed with low testosterone and sub-fertility. Here is the data I have... 1/28/2003 Total Testosterone 225.3 [241-827] Free Testosterone 46.8 [47-244] LH 3.3 [1.5-9.3] FSH 2.3 [1.4-18.1] 6/9/2003 Total Testosterone 142.6 [241-827] At this point the Urologist put me on Clomid (will have to check the dosage). 12/19/2003 Total Testosterone 259.8 [241-827] By this time, I had stopped Clomid for a couple of month and my fertility had reached the low end of the normal range. 02/28/06 Total Testosterone 154 [241-827] Free Testosterone 4.4 [6-30] LH 4.5 [1.5-9.3] FSH 2.8 [1.4-18.1] Fertility has dropped again to severly sub-fertile level. My question: I have been offered Hcg shots as I cannot go on gels etc.(will make me completely infertile). The goal is to try to improve fertility so that we can have kids as well as get my testosterone level up. I was 34 in 2003 and as you can see my testosterone was ~146. I am 5'11'', 175 lbs and have no other issues. I had a MRI done in 2004 to check pituitary and no issues there. I have seen good advice from members here and would like your opinion. Should I go with my doctor's recommendation who happens to be a Urologist specializing in infertility...he was little hesitant in prescribing HcG, though my Endo. was okay earlier this year. What about FSH levels...they are low as well and HcG is not going to help with that. I think he has prescribed 10,000 units of Hcg for a month, 2500 units per week I guess (thrice a week). 12, 22g, 1.5'' syringes total. All the advice will be greatly appreciated by both of us. I have seen so many doctors in last 3-4 years to get the right answers and nobody is able to explain anything to me. I don't even know whether it's primary or secondary hypogonadism. Thanks in advance and sorry for a long post but I wanted to put all the data down that I have. -cj
Guest guest
CJ, Welcome! Great place to come for support and answers. What sort of side effects have you felt/do you feel with low T levels? Was it all of a sudden 3-4 years ago or have you struggled all along? What was the dosage of Clomid? I was one 50 mgs. 3x week and had tremendous results, for example. Guest guest
CJ, I'm currently injecting hcg and am very happy with it. I had been on androgel for over a year, my testis were shrinking, we are trying to have another baby, so my doc put me on hcg while I tapered off the androgel (took about 3 weeks). Now I'm just doing the hcg, 1000iu's per shot, every third day which works out to 10 times in a month which equals the 10,000iu bottle of Novarel. My T levels actually went up using the hcg, from 458 to 498. My testis are now hanging low again and although they haven't yet returned to their original size, I think they have gotten slightly bigger (I've only been on it for almost 2 months). Anyway, if you talk to your doc, you should be able to inject the hcg subq instead of IM. I know it says IM only on the package, but it works just fine subq. I barely notice the shots subq, but I suspect it would be painful to do them IM since you get one every third day. I'm also using a 30 gauge needle (half inch long) to inject with. They gave me a 22 gauge (1.5 " long) to draw with then I switch the needle to the 30 gauge. Since my insurance doesn't cover the hcg (because of the fertility issue), I get mine from IVPCARE.COM. I'm pretty happy with them, although it's easier to talk with them on the phone than use their website. It seems like I read a study somewhere that said the hcg does increase fsh levels also, though probably not all that much. Hope this helps. -Dan > > > > Have been lurking here for a while and finally decided to post. > This > > is my first post after reading some useful general information > with a > > question specific to my condition. > > > > I am interested in improving my fertility and have been diagnosed > > with low testosterone and sub-fertility. > > > > Here is the data I have... > > > > 1/28/2003 > > Total Testosterone 225.3 [241-827] > > Free Testosterone 46.8 [47-244] > > LH 3.3 [1.5-9.3] > > FSH 2.3 [1.4-18.1] > > > > > > 6/9/2003 > > Total Testosterone 142.6 [241-827] > > > > At this point the Urologist put me on Clomid (will have to check > the > > dosage). > > > > 12/19/2003 > > Total Testosterone 259.8 [241-827] > > > > By this time, I had stopped Clomid for a couple of month and my > > fertility had reached the low end of the normal range. > > > > 02/28/06 > > Total Testosterone 154 [241-827] > > Free Testosterone 4.4 [6-30] > > LH 4.5 [1.5-9.3] > > FSH 2.8 [1.4-18.1] > > > > Fertility has dropped again to severly sub-fertile level. > > > > My question: > > > > I have been offered Hcg shots as I cannot go on gels etc.(will > make > > me completely infertile).
