Guest guest
*Every rose has got its thorns- Happy women's day* Roja (28) is a close friend of mine. " Roja " is a Tamil word means " Rose flower " . She is well known for her beauty as just as her name reflects. Every rose has got its own thorns. Yes, she is a widow at this young age and only bread winner in family. As far I know, the only vision in the life of Roja is to bring up her child. I used to visit her home often to share her thorns. She works in a trading industry which has got flexibility in fixing working hours, work place, and remuneration too. No wonders, the industry which offers you this much flexibility is none other than flesh trade. Yes, she is a woman in flesh trade. She sells sex to save life of many that includes her children and age old parents. As a usual visit, I went to her home one day. She was rushing up with some household routine works, as she wants to go out for attending a customer. I asked whether I could assist her in some means. She requested me to take care of her children, as her parents had gone to nearby temple. I thought it was my privilege to look after that beautiful kid at least for an hour. I took charge of the kid and relieved her (temporarily). I was a great opportunity for me to learn peace while playing with the kid. To hinder my peace, I heard someone knocking at the door. I was wondering to see Roja with pale face returning so earlier. Before I started to query, she took the child from me and went inside bed room. After sometime with peaceful face she came back and gave back the child. I asked why she came back so early and what she did with the child in bed room. She responded that, " I went to satisfy my regular customer. I lied in bed with him. When he touched my breast, I realized that I forget to feed my child. I took an half hour permission from my customer to breast feed the kid. " " Please take care of the kid. I will return back soon and try to tackle my parents if they come before me " Yes, Roja may be an unethical woman according to our societal constructions that includes outdated moral values. According to me, she is an ethical mother. Who am I to judge people based on their identity, occupation and any indicators which are constructed with social bias. Happy women's day to Roja and her community who sells sex to save life of others D. Dinesh Kumar e-mail: <ethics.justice@...>
