Guest guest
Hi there, I just started researching LDN for my 15 year old daughter, that has Crohns. She is in a flare right now and her GI wants to put her on humira. I am really nervous about that and keep telling him to try LDN first, but he wont. I found a doctor in the states that said he would prescribe it for her and will get to talk to him later this week. I have a few questions about it though, What works better the cream, tablets or capsules? How do you decide on the dose? She is 102 llbs. How fast did u see results? Are there any side effects? Did u need to check/monitor blood? Thanks
Guest guest
Hi , she should use the transdermal cream, if you have the possibilities to get it from a pharmacy where you live. You could use from 3.0 mg to 4.5 mg, (even more during a flare). You may try out what's doses that is functioning on her. I have just had a Crohns flare, and I am not allowed to use medications that puts down my immune system. But my GI gives me prednisone (I have to use something, though) and I now use pred(10 mg) a day with LDN (6 mg) while flareing, and I will continue with this untill I find that all has calmed down. Many people in here avoid the use of all immune supressors and modulators. You should read www.ldninfo.org to find out why. I have decided in spite of that to do what's functioning for me. So I will continue to use small doses of prednisone in conjuction with LDN during a Crohns flare. Every one in here having U.C or Crohns understand why ;-).. For me a flare use to go over a 6 months period or longer without any prednisone, but by following this protocol it calms down in one month. I then start with Pred 40 mg x2 days, 30 mg x 6 days, goes down to 20 mg for 12 days, then 10 mg the rest, and ends up with 5 mg for a shorter period. For me it's absolutely the best protocol, due to that I had cancer (in a kidney last year with a surgery) and am not allowed taking other immune modulators. There were no options for me a year ago. I was really happy when I found LDN. And it worked perfect for me. Have had one small flare which lasted a week in January, and have one now that seems to have calmed down after one months prednisone and ldn use!!! :-) You should of course avoid things that makes her flare, have you considered going gluten free? How does she react to dairy? Or sugar? Spices? Even vegetables, fruits and berries could be too hard to deal with while flareing. But I am sure you know all this. LDN is working better if you have a good nutrition programme for her and follow it to the finger tips. Have you considered The Makers Diet or the SCD diet? Have you read this site: www.gazorpa.com here you can print out information to bring with to your doctors. It's really good info on LDN. Good luck. Guest guest
I would get the cream. It's absorbed better when there are bowel issues. I get mine in mail from Skip's in FL. ( live in Upstate NY). They have been making it for yrs. and don't want to take a chance.Betty Skip's Pharmacy, Boca Raton, FL (561) 218-0111 (800) 553-7429 (561) 218-8873
Guest guest
I go to see a new gastro doctor tomorrow morning. She is an osteopathic doctor and I am hoping she will prescribe otherwise, I am doing it on my own. I am suffering right now from a tooth being pulled and it is failing to heal normally...mainly due to the Humira we believe. I am sick of immune suppressants and am ready to make a change. > > > Hello Belle, > > I have had great improvement on LDN for Crohns since mid-November. > > It has dialed down my symptoms about 80%, give or take a little, on a given day. > > As with many people here, I had some initial problems falling asleep right away and some kooky dreams, but that has settled down. > > Once in a while I feel a little " jazzy " sensation at night from it, but it is a good feeling and doesn't interfere with sleep. One can take the sleep aid melatonin if there is a real problem. I had actually been using melatonin regularly, but decided to stop when I began LDN and I do fine without it now, although there is apparently no contraindication for taking the two together. > > I started at half dose LDN for one full week and now take the recommended 4.5 mgs. > > I feel this is a godsend. And, I am very grateful not to be on immune suppressant drugs which I feel can do much harm. >

Guest guest
The doctor will not prescribe LDN as it is not approved and the liability issues are too great. However, she is going to research the clinical trials and see if there is a way to get me enrolled and do follow up testing at her office. low dose naltrexone From: russoje@...Date: Mon, 23 Feb 2009 18:57:10 -0800Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Crohns & LDN Please post your results I have interest in cases of Crohn's that respond to LDN.Jeanettesjgramenz wrote:> I go to see a new gastro doctor tomorrow morning. Guest guest
Crystal - I live in Moline Illinois and cannot find a gastroenterologist to prescribe LDN. I know I can buy it from India but I would really like a physician to monitor. Can you find someone for me? > > > >> Hello Belle, > >> > >> I have had great improvement on LDN for Crohns since mid- November. > >> > >> It has dialed down my symptoms about 80%, give or take a little, on > >> > > a given day. > > > >> As with many people here, I had some initial problems falling > >> > > asleep right away and some kooky dreams, but that has settled down. > > > >> Once in a while I feel a little " jazzy " sensation at night from it, > >> > > but it is a good feeling and doesn't interfere with sleep.
