Guest guest
Melinda, I checked the Dr. Koop's drug checker (http://www.drugchecker.drkoop.com), and it said there were no medication or food interactions listed for them. You might want to use this again, just to make sure. Drug interactions? Hi all, I'm looking for somone here who might have a drug book that could tell me drug interactions between one new perscription I have and one old on I'm on, because I forgot to tell the doctor I was taking the old one, and my pharmacy isn't open right now so I can't call them. The drugs are Piroxicam and Arthrotec. If anyone has a book and can tell me as soon as possible, I would be VERY thankful, as I don't dare take them both until I know. Guest guest
Hi! I went back to the doctor yesterday for the depression I have, it is diagnosed as a depression disordeer caused by stress, of that I have no doubt either. He gave me a prescrip of 40mg Celexa, told me to take 1/2 tablet daily. Well I got into Celexa on AOL Health pages and this drug sounds as though it is a nightmare, frankly I am scared to take it. Why? I have to work, on this coming Monday I have to go to a training session all day 80 miles away, Next week I Have to do a full 60 hours and driving my car, from place to place I also have dog kennel and my precious dogs to care for I don't work then I don't eat sort of thing. Obviously I cannot be tired and a zombie and be safe, and once I start I understand that I can 't stop it. What is wrong with these god damned doctors, look at the patient and get out the prescrp pad and that is it, I had hoped that on todays visit, he would recommend a visit with a shrink of sorts---NO! I wondered if the extreme fatigue I suffer from 3pm on each day was due to something amiss like sugar, but I was not even given that benefit of proper tests. I had asked him if this depression could be bi-polar, he looked shocked and said' you have never shown any signs of it'. When I came home from the doctor yesterday (Friday) morning, I spent the rest of the day crying, sleeping and very upset by this. I have no friends around that want to be mixed up with me cause of the pending divorce, you know the 'stay away' syndrome. I called the lawyer and told him that between him, my husband and his lawyer I had gotten into this state, I don't know if I will lose my home and where do I go? I am 73 and far too old for this garbage. Anne

Guest guest
That depression sure can get it's grip on people. Sometimes all you can do is continue to breathing. Just concentrate on breathing, and at least you will still be alive. Finally the old bugaboo depression will loosen it's grip. Guest guest
Dear Anne, Build up slowly on the medications that way you wont turn into a zombie. I have been (and am on) anti depressants, as is my husband, and neither of us are zombies!! Just start on a quarter of the dose and increase it slowly, like a quarter a week. Always start slowly where brain chemistry is involved. Most make you a little sleepy, but should not smash you out. Only the sinequan did that to me! Ya, i had just went to that drug interaction site and looked up the Arthrotec and saw all that you just said right before i had gotten your email. LOL. The piroxicam i only take once a month but it just happened that i had barely gotten the script for the Arthrotec when i NEEDED to take the piroxicam LOL> And Yes i also saw that The Arthrotec is bad for me to take now that im not taking my BC pills. SO no more of that Arthrotec. Plus i think its making me sick to my stomach any way so good riddance to that. But thank you for helping me. :-) Melinda At 11:06 PM 4/10/01 -0400, you wrote: >Melinda, I'm sorry I'm so late to reply to this....I asked my pharmacist on >this & she said you should not take these two together....ALSO, I was >thinking about the Arthrotec...that is the one medication we dispense that >we have to give additional information on....you should not try to get >pregnant while on this medication as it will cause a miscarriage...Sorry so >late with this info, but hope it is helpful....Hope you are well! Guest guest
Anne, I'm sorry I am responding so late to your post, but I am so far behind on reading all these messages that it takes me a while to get to everyone. I can see that you have a lot going on and the stress must be unbearable. How did the training sessions go? I once had to drive 80 miles each way for 2 weeks for training for this one job I had and it was killing me. The toll it took on my back was not worth the job itself. By the 4th day I was using a walker just to get around. Trust me, it doesn't look good when you have to use a walker during the training period for a new job, which I barely kept after the training but I then lost after 2 weeks actually on the job. These people had a bad habit of announcing early morning meetings late in the day and it's hard enough for me to be ON TIME without having to show up early. I was late to a 7:00 meeting and was fired the same day. What a hassle that whole thing was. I also understand your concern about being a zombie while under a new drug. Being a zombie is what cost me my last job here in Charlotte. I either took my meds and became a sales zombie or I didn't take the drugs and I was in too much pain to even think about the damned job. So I chose to take the drugs. I lost another job because I failed the drug screening, but I wasn't notified of that until the 5th day of the training for THAT job. What a waste. It wasn't worth trying to take the drug test again; I had written down that I took those meds before the lab vampire even took my blood, but did anybody pay attention? I don't think so. Guest guest
People say that they have gotten positive drug tests from certain foods, like poppyseeds. I know that the form that was sent to the lab, when I had a drug screen many years ago, had a place right on it, to list your prescription meds. Maybe you should call your doc and have him give you a new med. I am really worried about you. I am sorry that I didn't reply to you earlier...I just got back on the puter. I really feel so awful that you are feeling so bad. I do understand what you are going through. I went through a terrible divorce that lasted for what seemed like forever...and I have 5 sons to feed and clothe. Somehow, we managed...with the help of anti-depressants for me...and we are all happy now. I really wish for you some serenity for the day. Do you have any hobbies that will help to distract you from all the problems? I love animals and have always wanted to own a kennel...I bet that is really a wonderful job. I wish that there was something that I could do for you...but, I will be here if you need a shoulder. Love, Lucy Re: Drug interactions? Guest guest
Do not take LDN (Naltrexone) with any of the following: • disulfiram (Antabuse);• thioridazine (Mellaril);• buprenorphine (Buprenex, Subutrex);• codeine (Tylenol with Codeine, and other brand names);• hydrocodone (Lorcet, Lortab, Vicodin, Vicoprofen, and other brand names);• hydromorphone (Dilaudid);• levorphanol (Levo-Dromoran);• meperidine (Demerol);• methadone (Dolophine, Methadose);• morphine (Kadian, MS Contin, MSIR, OMS, Roxanol, Oramorph SR, and other brand names);• oxycodone (M-Oxy, OxyContin, OxyIR, Roxicodone, Percocet, Percodan, and other brand names);• oxymorphone (Numorphan); or• propoxyphene (Darvon, and other brand names). · Ultram (tramadol) · Novantrone · Rebif · Avonex · Betaseron · Tysabri · Chemo's · Cellcept is a chemotherapy · methotrexate · Remicade - Called Skip's Pharmacy at the suggestion of people in this group, and the pharmacist there told me you have to be off Remicade for 50 days before starting LDN. Since the two meds have opposing effects on the immune system, LDN won't work while on Remicade. http://www.skipspha rmacy.com/ · 6MP - called Skip's about 6MP they said you should be off it for about a week before starting LDN.It sounded like you wouldn't want to take 6MP concurrent with LDN, since 6MP is an immunosuppressant and would have opposing effect on immune system as LDN. · Humira Dr. Jill said to stop Humira for 2 weeks before starting on LDN. And this was the reply I got when I asked the question if we had to stop Humira before starting LDN on the LDN website: A person with Crohn's who receives Humira can begin LDN immediately (because H. is not a narcotic and thus is not contraindicated) -- however, Humira's effects in suppressing the immune system can seriously blunt the potential benefits from LDN (which should strengthen the immune system). The sooner off Humira, which is dangerous, the better. Ø Cautionary warnings: Because LDN blocks opioid receptors throughout the body for three or four hours, people using medicine that is an opioid agonist, i.e. narcotic medication — such as Ultram (tramadol), morphine, Percocet, Duragesic patch or codeine-containing medication — should not take LDN until such medicine is completely out of one's system. Patients who have become dependant on daily use of narcotic-containing pain medication may require 10 days to 2 weeks of slowly weaning off of such drugs entirely (while first substituting full doses of non-narcotic pain medications) before being able to begin LDN safely. I believe that steroids, short term, are ok with LDN. If there is any doubt, please submit a full list of the drugs you are presently taking so that their compatibility may be assessed. In addition, because LDN will also block the analgesic effects of any opiate drugs (includes codeine, dihydrocodeine, morphine, pethidine or diamorphine) presently being taken, the use of LDN will initially greatly increase the level of pain experienced. It is therefore advisable that any opiate-like drugs be discontinued at least two weeks before this treatment is initiated." Hello - my mother is approaching her doc tomorrow about ldn for her lupus, and wants feedback to make sure none of the drugs she's taking will adversely interact. I had already asked about Prednisone, of which she only takes 7 mg per day, therefore should be okay. Here's a list of what she's taking - hydroxychloroquine - 200 mg x 2 per day; cozaar - 50 mg x 2 per day; omeprazole (prilosec) - 20 mg x2 per day; benzonatate - 100 mg x 3 per day; diclofenac potassium - 50 mg x 2 per day.Any feedback would be wonderful, and please keep good thoughts for her that her doc is open to prescribing!TIA,Durga
