Guest guest
Thanks for the update Lorri. It sounds like you are doing all the right things for the sleep issue -- although I have to say that thyroid folk REALLY have a hard time with LDN at night and you're another example. With the amount of sleep aid you're taking it's amazing that you can't stay asleep. I'm glad to hear that you ARE able to get back to sleep though because quality sleep is REALLY important -- but especially for the chronic fatigue / fibro folks. I also have thyroid disease (TD) -- although mine is autoimmune. ie; Hashi's. You mentioned that Armour hasn't helped with your fibro pain. What are your thyroid levels ?? I assume you're having the FT3 & FT4 levels monitored. I take separate T3 & T4 medications -- that way it's easier to tweak a dose if one of my 'Frees' is too low / high. Also, because my TD is autoimmune my doctor feels like Armour (which is derived from pig) may accelerate an antibody response. I was interested to note that you're taking 10mg of melatonin. Is that what your doctor recommended ? Just curious... I've taken up to 8mg...and have been wondering if that was considered too high or not. Also, how long have you been taking melatonin....???.. Many thanks, Jann
Guest guest
Jann I've been taking melatonin since it came on the market..early '90's. I've read everything that I can on melatonin and while 10 mg is kinda high, studies have been done with even higher amounts (75mgs -- I think) with no adverse affects noted. That study was to see if melatonin was an effective form of birth control. I've taken anywhere from 3-20mg. At one point, I was able to go down to as little as 3 mg. My current labs are: TSH 0.004 range .450-4.50 FT3 4.8 range 2.3-4.2 FT4 1.54 range 0.61-1.76 My pulse and bp were up and I was getting hot flashes. It wasn't overwhelming, I would just suddenly feel my face get warm. Kinda like what happens when you blush. Plus I was getting heart palps and couldn't stay asleep at night. So, the doctor cut my armour dose from 3 grains to 2 1/2 grains. The hot flashes are gone and my bp and pulse has come down. I think I'm still dealing with adrenal issues, though. But now that I'm sleeping a little better, I'm noticing my stamina and energy levels are up. Not normal yet, but better.
