Guest guest Posted June 22, 2009 Report Share Posted June 22, 2009 Kerala SACS aims zero-level HIV infection by 2011 20 Jun 2009 KOLLAM: The Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS) is trying to bring down the HIV infection cases in the State to zero-level by 2011, additional project director of KSACS Dr. T.V.Velayudhan has said. He said that there were 55,167 HIV-infected people in the State of whom around 10,000 had registered their names with the Society. The Society is trying to register others also. Around 5,000 people are taking treatment from the Society and 40 percent of them are women and children, he said. Speaking at a workshop jointly organised by the Society and the Kollam Press Club the other day, Velayudhan said that everyday, around 8,000 fresh cases of HIV infection were reported across the world. Majority of them are in the age group of 18 - 45. Treatment for HIV patients is available in all the five Medical College Hospitals and the Palakkad District Hospital. The medicines are distributed through the Link RAT Centres in the District Hospitals.
