> Hi folks,

> Can anyone tell me if the LUAT test for Lyme, by Igenex (is that

correct?) is the most accurate to date for detection of Lyme disease?

(chronic Lyme, by now). I had a negative Western Blot Lyme test back

in 1999 (several years after I became ill), but nothing since then. I

want to revisit this area.

Donna,

Igenex no longer offers the LUAT but has replaced it with the LDA a

somewhat similar test. It is a " challenge " urine test and you need

to be prescribed antibiotics prior to urinating over a three day

period. It detects the antigen rather than antibodies so it is

rather specific. If you suspect long term infection it is probably

one of the best tests to take to detect Bb. You can order the test

directly from Igenex, but of course must have a doctor's order prior

to sending in your specimen. They include instructions on which

antibiotics are best to challenge with. Good luck,

Tim

Some posts I recall were discussing the testing question and I thought I

would add something.

I recently learned from my Lyme doctor, Dr. Steve (son of Nick ,

head of Igenex and Clinical Consultant for Igenex) that they think their

Igenex IgG and IgM Western blot is the best test to use initially, unless you

do the protocol of several days of antibiotics that precede the LDA urine

test.

1-What is the likehihood that I will be allowed to go on some form of

antibiotics without a positive test result? Chris

I would say nil from where I come from. I just went to a LLMD. I had

already jumped through loops to get the tests done at IgeneX before going to

him because I can't take many antibiotics and I knew that he did the antibiotic

challenge test. He said the Western Blot tests were highly suggestive of Lyme

but I had to go through two weeks of Flagly and Zithromax and than do the

IgeneX Lyme Dot Blot Assay/PCR Panel to get a firm diagnosis. So all of my work

was in vein and waisted four or five weeks and sneaking around so my husband

wouldn't know what I was doing because he doesn't think anything is wrong with

me since I seem normal for me, he always says that I haven't had a well day in

our married life and I haven't but when I say that I am at the end of my rope

he doesn't believe me.

So don't believe there is a short cut.

Good Luck,

H.

My husband always said the same thing, that I was imagining Lyme

disease. I think he is starting to beleive me know especially with

the body jerking when I am asleep because I am not awake to fake

that! Hang in there and get those tests done no matter what!

God Bless you!

With which lab did he test?

Which antibodies were tested?

More info. would be helpful, but the presence of antibodies usually

suggests an active or chronic infection.

Connie

His results would suggest he has Lyme

Can someone here give me the name of the best Lyme tests so I could

buy one here in France. I went to my chemist yesterday : they do not

have one ; it must be a product rarely sold. Thank you very much.

The tests I wanted to run at first were

IgeneX

Central Florida Research

then I hired my Lyme physician and he likes,

Fry Laboratories.

NONE of the Lyme tests are a simple " yes " or " no " answer.

Lyme is a CLINICAL diagnosis. This means an extensive history, hands

on exam, and maybe an EKG. It seems that each Lyme physician likes a

particular type of test.

Hiring a competent Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD) is an important

part of this journey. An incompetent Lyme physician will get us dead,

or worse.

Lyme is a complex disease. There very well might be 6 other

coinfections present. These coinfections might live and reproduce

without cell walls. Some of these invaders can form cysts and hide in

our bodies in response to the antibiotics. This is where a good LLMD

is critical.

Because of this importance of the clinical diagnosis I feel it is

important the hire a Lyme physician FIRST then get what test the Lyme

physician wants.

My Lyme physician prefers Fry Laboratories. It's a blood smear where

the blood cells are stained. When I first saw my Fry Laboratories

test results I saw the bartonella bits in there.

IgeneX is also a popular test.

When I was shopping for tests I had chosen Central Florida Research.

I had interviewed on the telephone some of their lab people and liked

this test the best. Sadly, the person who drew the blood didn't do it

correctly, and the blood was not usable for the test.

My Lyme tests are in the " Pics " section of my MySpace profile. Look

for the blue circles. (these are my stained blood cells)

Hi Jodi, if I may butt in here, I was very happy with the Florida

lab. Just make sure the directions are exactly followed for the blood

draw. I know my doctor did not ship over the weekend as I believe

there is a time limit as to how long it can take for them to get the

specimen. V
