`More ART centres needed in hills`

Imphal, August 23: " What will we tell our childrens about how we reacted while

million were dying, Are we bystanders contributors to the indifference or Are we

fighters " said S.K Victor, consultant, Civil Society and Mainstream, Manipur Aids

Control Society while presenting his paper as a resource person on topic " Role

of community leaders in Combating the Spread of HIV/AIDs on 2 days seminar cum

training on Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention Of Atrocities) Act,

1989 held on 21 and 22 August at Tangkhul Theological Association(TTA)

conference hall,Ukhrul District HQ.

Resource person further mention that the concern organisations are turning thier

attention to leaders of civil society organisation specially the Chruch leaders

to control the increasing of the HIV/AIDs infection in the state.

About Ukhrul district, he said the district recorded highest percentage of PLHA

in the state.

Many among these are hidding for fear of stigma and discrimination.

He also said that to fight the HIV/AIDs we all need to demand adequate ART

centres, Community Care Centre to be set up in the hill districts.

Resource person Risom, advocate, also present a paper on " Atrocities and

Human Rights violation " to the hill peoples of the state Manipur.

Another recource peson K.Sani Mao SW/PWD also present a power point paper on

" Atrocities in the Form of Violation of reservation in Post and Services for the

Scheduled Tribes " .

Other resource persons include Vareso Ningshen Lecturer, LMS Law College Imphal.

The 2 days Seminar Cum Training on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes

(Prevention Of Atrocities) Act 1989 was innaugurated by the Chingai Assembly

constituency MLA Dr. Khasim Ruiva as an chief guest and presided by the

of Tangkhul Mayar Naga Long. with hundreds of delegates and traines present.

Giving the keynote address on innaugural function Tribal Research Institute

(TRI) joint director K. Daimai said that the programme is intended to bring

awareness to the tribal peoples of the state about the atrocities against tribal

and SC.

Giving the chief guest MLA Chingai A/C Dr. Khasim Ruiva said that lots of

atrocities are happening in the state to the hill peoples, including on the

reservation issue, developmentat atrocities etc.
