DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: AIDS Healthcare Foundation is looking for a fully dedicated and committed individual for the position of Advocacy and Legal Affairs Manager to provide leadership to pearhead AHF advocacy strategies in India. Liaise and maintain relationship with other organizations involved in advocacy and activist work for people living with HIVAIDS. The position requires a doctorate, PG Arts, Social Sciences, MD - with a proven record and experience of working with advocacy and legal related issues on HIVAIDS. A person who can deliver effective advocacy plans, cutting edge policy on HIVAIDS with knowledge of the epidemic and current HIVAIDS response by the government or nongovernmental organization in the field of advocacy. Key qualifications: PG in Arts, Social Sciences, Law, Medicine, MPH, Human Rights, Law, communication or other discipline with first hand knowledge of advocacy and legal related work. At least a minimum of five years of relevant experience in filed of advocacy, HIVAIDS related work activism. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities while working as team member. Team player service-minded and able to work under pressure. Available to start working in October 2009 Roles and Responsibilities: *Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. *Provide leadership for AHF India cares in advocacy and work in synergy with partners NGO's involved in addressing HIVAIDS related issues particularly to HIV testing, universal access to ART drugs, second line of drugs, stigma and discrimination, human rights issues face by PLHAs. *Provide advocacy related leadership and establish, strengthen advocacy coalitions, networks and linkages at national level. *Conduct advocacy related meeting, workshop, trainings, and leadership meetings to enhance and advance organizational policy and vision. *Initiate, generate, design advocacy strategies for the organization on HIVAIDS and contribute to the organization to effectively address multiple and diverse issues to effectively fight the epidemic. *Support and assist PLHA to discover their voices in the fight against HIVAIDS and enable affected groups to discover their voices and make their voices heard. *Provide support to PLHA Grievances Redressal Cell. *Represent AHF in advocacy related meetings, workshop, and forums at local, national level. *Assist and provide legal related support and represent the organization in legal issues working in under the guidance of the organization legal counsel and advisors. *Liaise with active activist groups, positive groups and those working in the field of HIVAIDS advocacy. *Identify advocacy issues and target audiences such as government officials, policy makers, religious leaders, employers, health professionals, communities, and media and donor agencies. *Strive to raise awareness and increase understanding of the need for HIVAIDS related services among the general population. *Should assist, initiate and support campaigns for universal treatment access, uphold the rights of people with HIVAIDS. *And other task as assigned.
