*Dear Forum,*

Please find herewith details of a girl's poor death due to lack of medical

treatment in Government Hospital, Krishnagiri.

The real story of the girl is illustrated below and please peruse it and give

your feedbacks and actions for further support and action for the betterment of

our PLHIV.

*Sneha*, aged 8 years, dwelled in Kaveripattinam, both her parents died in HIV

when she was 2 years old. She was being cared by her grandmothers and maternal

uncle. After her father’s death both mother and child were tested and both

observed positive. For the past one year she had chronic opportunistic

infections.

At each instant of OI she was completely denied medical treatment by Government

Hospital, Krishnagiri. Due to unavailability of pediatrician in the GH, she was

bombarded between Community Care Centre at Krishnagiri and Children Hospital at

Egmore, this lead to further aggravation of health complexities.

On April 17, 2008 she was discharged from Children Hospital, Egmore and reached

her house at night, and after a few hours she died.

A girl child at the age of 8 years without proper medical treatment services at

Government Hospital Headquarters, Krishnagiri has left this world.

On following the life of this poor girl, we (TNNP+) would claim that the absence

of both pediatrician and HIV specialized pediatrician in Krishnagiri headquarter

has made the girl to travel far-flung places, where the guardians had tough time

without knowing the place and systems prevailing in those unknowing regions.

There are reported incidences of avoidable HIV death cases in Krishnagiri

district due to improper health facilities in Government

Hospitals, if this situation prolongs then the life of the persons with HIV

infection in dismal state will further effect to worst and hapless states, which

will create loss of hope among the HIV persons.

The Central and State Governments claim that they have funded huge amounts for

medical services for PLHIV to ensure their longevity but the system is still a

distant vision for many PLHIV.

Due to unavailability and inaccessibility of proper health care system the PLHIV

find difficulty to enhance their better health

standards and having a sustained life with dignity and value is seems to be

unrealistic and unachievable from the incidences prevailing at Government Health

Systems in Krishnagiri.

Thanks and regards,*

Dear forum,

Re: /message/10137

Point is well taken and Govt. needs to strengthen the health system.

At the same time Mr. Karurnanidhi should initiate a rapid assessment of the CCC

funded by TANSACS and should address the following issues across many community

care centers in Tamilnadu.

1. non - availability of part time doctors

2. Proper fund utilization and functioning as per NACO guideline.

Even in the case of this poor girl Sneha, Opportunistic infections could have

been managed by the doctors at the CCC. Why there was a lapse there?

It is the responsibility of the network to assess the service provision at all

CCC and advocate with TANSACS.

Dr. Raman.
