Announcing the Action Plus People's Panchayat on

RESISTING Stigma and Homophobia

Greetings from Action Plus! Action Plus is a network of 15 organisations working

on HIV/AIDS, social justice and human rights in different parts of India.

Action Plus invites you to a People's Panchayat which seeks to understand and

unravel heroic battles against Stigma and Homophobia through the voices of

survivors and resistors.

Through their testimonies the Panchayat seeks to address the devaluation of

livelihoods and life systems of entire communities of people who practice an

alternate sexuality, to the absolute erosion of all notions of rights or

dignity.

A series of People's Panchayats have been held in 5 different cities in India in

2009. The first one was in Bangalore on 28th January, the

second in Hyderabad on 6th February and the third in Chennai on 21st March and

the fourth on 11th April in Pune.

The structure of the programme:

Five deposers will share their life testimonies.

Two experts who have worked on the issue of stigma and homophobia will present

their analysis to the People’s Panchayat.

A Panch (jury) comprising of eminent personalities will hear the testimonies and

the experts and present their observations.

The audience will be given a chance to interact with the experts and the Panch.
