Guest guest
Hi Tommy & Celia, Naltrexone doesn't fit within the definition of a controlled substance. For a drug such as naltrexone to be listed as a 'controlled substance', the definition of a 'controlled substance' would have to be misinterpreted (see references below) - and if misinterpreted ... let's say along the lines of 'a drug that affects chemicals in the brain' ... then every other drug that affects chemicals in the brain would also have to be listed as a 'controlled substance' (and that'd be a huge list). (1) Here's the generally accepted legal definition of a 'controlled substance': ' ... controlled substance n. a drug which has been declared by federal or state law to be illegal for sale or use, but may be dispensed under a physician's prescription. The basis for control and regulation is the danger of addiction, abuse, physical and mental harm (including death), the trafficking by illegal means, and the dangers from actions of those who have used the substances. (See: narcotics) ... ' http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/controlled+substance (2) Here's the generally accepted legal definition of 'narcotics': narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required. Among these " controlled substances " are heroin, cocaine, L.S.D., opium, methamphetamine ( " speed " ), angel dust, hashish, and numereous chemically-designed hallucinagenics, as well as drugs with a legitimate medical use such as morphine. Dealing in any of these narcotics is a felony (subject to a prison term) under both state and federal laws, although mere use may be a misdemeanor. Marijuana is also an illicit narcotic, but possession of small amounts for personal use is a misdemeanor in most states. LDN IMPORTS / Celia Posted by: " Tommy Harraghy " harraghy@... tommyharraghy Date: Tue Dec 9, 2008 10:51 am ((PST)) Apparently the status of LDN has been " upped " in the USA. It is now a controlled substance just like morphine. I think that existing importers who wish to continue importing have to apply for a special licence. LDN IMPORTS Hi Celia, There's been a little agitation in the news here in Oz - around a Naltrexone implant. Essentially, pharmaceutical and manufactured products that treat addiction are either being trialled at present, or are in the product pipeline. In a commercialised environment, pre-marketing and anti-competitive behaviour are sometimes employed, and sadly, the health industry is a fully commercialised environment. Makes me think there could be a new product on the horizon, Cris 7a. Thanks Celia
