The more I try to tell my boys to quit licking their hands, the more frustrated I got and the more anxious they got. So, I realize, it is just best to ignore it for now. My two are nonverbal. So, they can't tell me why they do it. > > Dana > and Garrett, just turned 4, SCD 2 years > Celiac, ASD, Speech and Motor Apraxia, sensory processing disorder > My son is verbal but has trouble communicating at times. For example, I was frustrated with him earlier tonight because I was watching him play a video game and asking questions about it and he never could directly answer my questions. He would launch into this long, convoluted explanation about the entire magic system of the game instead of telling me what spell he had just cast when that was all I wanted to know. He didn't even see he wasn't answering my questions. He can be interesting to have discussions with but trying to communicate about stuff can still be frustrating at times. It was far worse when he was little. Anyway, my sister's daughter began doing the same thing (hand-licking) around the same age my son did this. I told her our story and she began giving her daughter lotion for her hands. I never heard about it again, so I assume it never turned into a big issue at her house like it did at mine. For us, I never offered lotion but did offer mittens when that was appropriate or reminded him that stuffing his hands in his pockets would protect them but licking would make it worse. (In your case, ignoring it for now may be best. But there may also come a time when offering possible solutions might be useful as well. :-) ) FWIW: My oldest has had lots of good things to say about how I was able to reach him in part because I was the ONLY person in his life who didn't treat his problem behaviors in an accusatory, blaming kind of fashion and approached it all with a sense of curiosity about what made him tick and how to help him better cope. Good luck. Michele http://www.healthgazelle.org http://www.kidslikemine.org

At my house, dry skin was eliminated with folic acid. Are you giving mB12 or TMG? If so, increase the folic. Those two supps need folic for proper absorption. I think I need more B-vitamins than I am getting. I also meant to comment on your thoughts on warts (but my weekend was lost to what appears to be strep die off). We didn't use lysine, so I think there are other things that must work as well, but my son did go through a period where his warts got much, much worse before they got better. Your remarks about how the virus effects the body as it comes out were useful to me. I have had lots of die-off rashes but never thought of his wart flare-up as a kind of die-off reaction. Anyway, gotta go (or I am sure I would have more to say). Michele http://www.healthgazelle.org http://www.kidslikemine.org
