Women's property rights and HIV & AIDS: evidence from India

Gender inequities are one of the key drivers of the HIV epidemic, globally and

in India. Women's limited ability to access, own, and control property is one

manifestation of gender inequity that has particularly grave implications in the

context of HIV and AIDS for women and their families.

This article by Hema Swaminathan, Nandita Bhatla, and Swati Chakraborty

presents findings from a qualitative research study in India that locates

women's experiences of property conflicts within the larger context of being

HIV-positive or HIV-affected
